In diesem Buch führt uns Ajahn Buddhadasa Schritt für Schritt durch die sechzehn Abschnitte der Anapanasati-sutta und macht sie durch seine Erläuterungen auch Anfängern leicht verständlich. Zusätzlich wurden Ergänzungen aus einem grösseren Werk über Anapanasati sowie relevante Passagen aus den Sutten mit in den Text aufgenommen, um ein echtes Handbuch für ernsthaft Übende zu erstellen. Durch die Übung von Anapanasati wird ein Heilungsprozess in Gang gesetzt, der entsprechend der individuellen Bedürfnisse die Heilung der spirituellen Krankheit, also das Erlöschen der Selbstsucht auf sanfte und natürliche Weise unterstützt. Ganz im Sinne der Buddha-Lehre wird der Übende bei Anapanasati zu Selbstverantwortung erzogen und benötigt keine Bestätigung durch einen "Meister", da die Schritte der Übung selbstevident in Erscheinung treten.
