Julian Atanassov, photographer and cinematographer in cinema and commercials, shows impressive and sublime landscapes he discovers on his continuous journey through different countries, mixing life and work together.
Working primarily on color-negative film, he feels like the analog material has a flavor, a presence, "a truth," which unveils the image behind the image. Color & silver gelatin prints, he often prints classically in the dark room.
Born in Bulgaria and a traveler from a young age, he reveals the world in a fairytale-like emotional way. The only relaxing points are the unique places – mostly mystical – sources, stones, and salt lakes, where the elements of nature come into one force. A way of seeing is a way of feeling.
Exhibitions in Berlin and Sofia; recently, Julian Atanassov presented his work at sèche editions, a Berlin-based independent photobook publisher and studio.
