Die Verminderung des Schlagwiderstandes resultiert darin, dass der Taucher eine höhere Geschwindigkeit, mehr Kraft und mehr Komfort beibehalten kann. Nicht alle SplitFins sind gleich gebaut. Spaltflossen sind in einer Auswahl von Formen, Größen und Starrheit erhältlich. Diese haben großen Einfluss auf den allgemeinen Komfort und die Leistungsfähigkeit. Eine Flosse mit kurzen, weichen Flossenblättern ist einfacher zu schlagen, als ein längeres, steiferes Flossenblatt, erfordert jedoch mehr Beinschläge um die gleiche Distanz zurückzulegen. Ein zu steifes Flossenblatt erfordert zu viel Anstrengung, um es bequem zu schlagen. Die Atomic Aquatics SplitFins wurden speziell dafür entwickelt, um all diese Variablen zu optimieren.
