Better Hearing In Background Noise

One of the biggest challenging for people living with hearing loss is hearing effectively in competing background noise. Conventional hearing aids utilise purely acoustic input to optimise hearing aid functioning. New Oticon Intent 2 utilises both acoustic and  the movement  information of the wearer  to optimise functioning. This provides a more natural and adaptive listening experience. Oticon call this 4D Sensor technology.

It should be pointed out that only the top two tiers of technology, the Oticon Intent 1 and Intent 2  possess the motion sensors.  Therefore the 4D sensor technology which is a primary distinguishing feature of this latest model from Oticon is limited to these top two tiers of technology.

Oticon Intent 2 is considered the Advanced model in the range and is second from the top. It is also powered by the new Sirius ™ platform and Deep Neural Network 2.0™ advancing Oticon’s BrainHearing™ technology by providing more personalised support in varying  listening environments.

Incorporating Four Sensory Inputs

Oticons research shows that people’s communication behaviour reflects their listening needs. So Oticon Intent incorporates: Head and Body movement,  Conversation Activity and the Acoustic input from the environment to automatically adapt and provide for a more optimised and natural listening experience. Oticon claim this 4D Sensor Technology provides up to 35% more access to speech cues giving and increase of 15% speech understanding in noise compared to previous technology.

Here’s an  explanation of how they work:

Microphone Input:

    • Microphones capture external sounds for them to be selectively amplified.  Environmental sounds include speech, music, and other noises.
    • Digital Signal Processing: Acoustic signals are processed using advanced algorithms to optimise and clarify the sound. The processing helps to distinguish between different types of sounds with the aim of making speech more understandable and reducing the competing background noise

Motion Sensors:

      • Accelerometers and Gyroscopes integrated into the hearing aids detect the wearer’s head movements and the orientation of the device in real-time.
      • Motion Analysis: The hearing aids analyse the wearers movements determining factors such as the wearers movements, the direction they are facing, their walking pace and any sudden changes in movement.

Optimising Hearing Based on Motion:

  • Adaptive Directional Microphones: The hearing aids adjust their directionality of the microphone focal patterns based on the wearer’s head movements. For example  if the wearer turns their head towards someone speaking, the hearing aid can focus on that direction. This can be considered as the wearers “Intent”. They will the enhance the clarity of speech coming from that direction.
  • Dynamic Sound Processing: The hearing aid dynamically adjusts sound processing parameters based on motion data. For example, it may emphasise speech coming from the front while suppressing noise from the sides or behind, depending on the wearer’s orientation.

By combining acoustic input and motion data, Oticon Intent hearing aids provide a more natural and adaptive listening experience. They cater to an individuals dynamic and changing auditory needs. This technology represents a significant advancement in the field of hearing assistance by providing a more personalised and effective solutions for hearing in complex listening environments.

Discreet and Rechargeable

Oticon Intent have been made shorter than the former Oticon Real rechargeable, but slightly wider. They have also opted for a single push button on each device rather than a rocker switch.

Fast, Powerful, Reliable Charging

Being rechargeable hearing aids New Oticon Intent 2 is the fastest charging Oticon hearing aid to date. With a remarkable time of only two hours to fully charge from flat giving you around 20hours of reliable wear time. The new Oticon Desk Charger is small and light with clearly visible markings for left and right hearing aids. The redesigned contact charging helps the speed and efficiency of the charging.

A mere 30 minutes will provide 8 hours of wear time.

Enhanced Connectivity

Streaming Audio wirelessly from smart devices is improved by now utilising bluetooth low energy. This provides high fidelity streaming together with lower power consumption.

Bluetooth LE Audio & AuraCast Ready

Oticon have integrated Bluetooth LE Audio for better stability and to enable two way streaming on iPhone and Android.

Oticon Intent 2 hearing aids are future ready for AuraCast which allows direct streaming of audio in public venues such as cinema, theatres, airports and shopping centres. So clear audio is received and public announcements are not missed. This is emerging technology for public broadcasts in venues that supersedes the need for a tele-coil in hearing aids and installed loop systems in public venues.

Although a made for iPhone hearing aid, Oticon Intent will also allow direct streaming from select Android devices that feature the (ASHA) protocol. Please see https://www.oticon.com.au/hearing-aid-users/support/information/compatibility

Direct streaming of audio is available with: iPhone,  iPad, iPod touch®, Mac® with macOS® Sonoma.

Hands Free Phone Calls

With a double tap on your hearing aids you can answer and hang up a phone calls. As the hearing aid wearer your voice is picked up by the hearing aid microphones and relayed off. So you don’t even need to take your phone out of your pocket or reach for it within a room to talk on the phone.

Four Technology Levels and Their Features

Oticon Intent is available in four levels of technology. With Oticon Intent 1 being the Premium or top of the line model and Intent 2 considered the Advanced model. it should be noted that the motion sensors are only available in these top two tiers of technology.  I would recommend going for the top two tiers of technology given they bring in all four dimensions (4D) benefits of speech intent.

The Intent-based spatial balance feature has the most capability in tough hearing environments and is only in technology level 1.

The Neural noise suppression of Oticon Intent 2 is up to 10 dB which should provide a good level of noise filtering to provide listening comfort and speech clarity even in challenging environments such as noisy restaurants and cafes.

Sound Enhancer : For the best performance and the use of the deep neural network in understanding speech, we recommend Oticon Intent 1 or at least Oticon Intent 2 tech level.

Wind Noise Reduction: For people who enjoy being outdoors where it’s often windy such as when playing golf or working in open area Oticon Intent has the enhanced sudden sound and wind suppression features.

Here is the Oticon Intent technology level features summary table:

In deciding which level of Oticon Intent suits your needs best, it is also important to consider that the Clear Dynamic is only available in Oticon Intent 1 and Intent Intent 2 has has a wide bandwidth of up to 8KHz which provides access to additional high frequency speech cues that provide further separation of the speech sound from competing environmental sound, enhances localisation and therefore feeds into reduced listening effort.

Fascinating, informative, but not for everyone.
Format: Paperback
The idea of a human energy field is not new; numerous books have been published on the subject, many of which I've seen on Amazon. I do think it makes sense, to some extent, that the human body should be surrounded by such a field or fields. As the author herself states, our psyche and spirit need protection just as much as our physical body does. The author of this book, Cyndi Dale, cites numerous scientific sources as evidence that these fields do exist. Of course, Kirlian photography has been around for many years now. For those who might not be familiar with this type of photography, it's basically a technique used to photograph the electrical discharges surrounding people and other living beings, including plants. Dale briefly discusses this process in the first chapter, "Energy and our Energetic Fields". This book also deals with the subject of the chakras, which are centers of energy in the physical body, and are also part of what is known as "the subtle body". These centers of energy are a well-known aspect of Hindu beliefs, and specifically, the yogic tradition. Although I do feel that much of New Age philosophy, psychology, and spirituality needs to be taken with a grain of salt, I nevertheless enjoyed reading this book. It's not one for casual reading, either; in fact, studying it will yield more food for thought than just one reading will provide. The author introduces the concept of energy balancing with an exploration of the four basic energy boundaries -- the physical, the emotional, the relational, and the spiritual. These are actually comprised of several of the twelve auric layers surrounding the physical body, and each has a different color, when viewed clairvoyantly; the physical is red, the emotional, orange, the relational, green, and the spiritual, white. She also discusses what life events can have detrimental effects on each of the boundaries. Next, she presents the eight specific boundary issues that most people will typically encounter. These she calls "spiritual syndromes". The first of them is named "The Paper Doll Syndrome", the basic manifestation of which being an endless repetition of the same troubling pattern in at least one area of a person's life. This might be, for example, a substance addiction that the person can't seem to break, or a pattern of getting involved in abusive relationships, also persistent in spite of therapy. The second boundary issue is named "The Vampire Syndrome". This one deals with the curious phenomenon of feeling energetically drained after being around certain people. It can manifest as a feeling of exhaustion, frustration or lack of motivation, as well. The third boundary issue, known as "The Mule Syndrome", is related to being a workaholic, of feeling duty-bound to take up the slack for others. It even involves worrying about others' concerns, to one's own detriment. Of course, physical exhaustion, as well as anxiety and depression, are also part of this boundary issue, which is related to co-dependency. The fourth boundary issue is named "The Psychic-Sensitive Syndrome". This one is specific to those people who are psychically gifted. It includes those who are highly empathic, as well as those who are able to sense supernatural beings. Admittedly, this sounds a little scary to me.... Physical symptoms such as anxiety and insomnia are typical of this syndrome, unsurprisingly enough! Dale mentions three other boundary issues -- "The Healer's Syndrome", which afflicts not only those in the medical or intuitive healing fields, but also those who are extremely kind-hearted; "The No-Boundary Syndrome", in which people are constantly hyperactive, as well as hypervigilant, and "The Environ Syndrome", which involves extreme sensitivity to environmental surroundings. Dale offers various solutions to all of these syndromes, starting, of course, with one's own self-diagnosis to see which one(s) a person might be affected by. From there, she discusses such things as visualization, guided meditations, color and crystal therapy, and sound therapy. I must admit to some skepticism as to the validity of using crystals for psychologically therapeutic purposes, because it just seems too "way out there". Some of the qualities Dale claims for crystals just seem to have no basis in scientific fact. Colors, on the other hand, do have valid psychological associations, although I'm not totally convinced of the therapeutic benefits thereof. Subsequent chapters deal with working on boundary issues to help in specific areas, such as work and success, financial issues, relationships, and parenting. Specific techniques that I do think are useful are "Uncovering Your Storyline", which is a means of digging into one's psyche in order to discover the origin of one's boundary issues, the use of sound therapy (music has scientifically been proven to profoundly affect the brain, and therefore, moods), visualization, and prayer. Although the author refers to God mostly as "the Divine", she does have a rather Christian-sounding tone in these sections of the book. I especially like her reference to "streams of grace" coming from God to take away the symptoms of the above-named syndromes. Again, this is a book that can be best appreciated by studying it, and putting its techniques into practice. While perhaps not everything will be helpful to individual readers (this depends on each reader's beliefs, as well as degree of skepticism), there is much to reflect on here, psychologically as well as philosophically speaking, not to mention the spiritual sense. Each chapter in the book is annotated, with references to scientific research articles on the Internet, for instance, as well as spiritually-related ones. There's also a bibliography for further reading. The tone of the writing is very soothing and peaceful, yet, the concepts discussed will ensure the reader's full attention. Dale never talks down to her readers, nor doe she engage in filling her chapters with any kind of jargon; in fact, she explains potentially new or confusing terms in clear, easy-to-understand language. In short, this book will not only be appreciated by veteran New Age adherents, but also by those who are open-minded enough to investigate a field of knowledge that might not entirely be sanctioned by the scientific establishment, yet, remains totally fascinating!

Energizing
Format: Paperback
As a spiritualist Cyndi Dale is in a league of her own. She uses science, psychology and spirituality to explain her beliefs. She has a strong grasp of the energy systems - neural, cardiac, muscular, biochemical, electrical, magnetic, and esoteric. How each is vital on it's own and how each is affected by the others. How the mind, environment and contact with others affects the body's energy systems. In this book she covers the above along with Chakras, Meridians, spirit types, auric layers and much more. This book teaches and heals.
