The Ronco del Gnemiz winery situated in a beautiful setting near Udine has been owned by the Palazzola family since 1964. The vineyards are based on Friuli’s prized sandstone soil ‘Ponca’ which comprises many layers of soil built up over millions of years making it rich in minerals and microelements which give the wine a highly distinctive character. Serena Palazzola and her team are not into fashionable wines, instead they've been uncompromisingly improving their wines for years making them one of best producers in the north east now for quite some time. 

The 2024 Chardonnay Sol shows the struck match Burgundian-inspired reduction immediately on the nose. This initial excitement leads to a beautifully delineated palate with white orchard fruit, mint, slate, crushed rocks and white pepper. The intention here is clearly to preserve freshness. A very tightly controlled Friulan Chardonay is what results. The Sol originates from vines that are nearly 60 years old , we recommend that the wine gets a good dose of air for it to unfurl and seduce. Get ready to be very impressed.
