The story of the “Coffee Dance” is legendary in Ethiopia. It dates back to the 9th century Kaffa region, where the term “coffee” was created. A young herder Kaldi noticed something strange: the normally calm goats were jumping, frolicking on their hind legs. Kaldi, after some searching, noted that the goats had been eating the bright cherries of the coffee plants. So he tried them, his mind became more clear, his fatigue vanished — and soon Kaldi joined his herd, dancing in the fields. The Legend of Kaldi was noted as the first human dance. It later led to coffee farmers, who would rejoice after a successful harvest, “Bamaya! Bamaya!"
