Rediscover a Jazz Classic: John Lewis and Sacha Distel's "Afternoon in Paris"
Experience the timeless allure of jazz with "Afternoon in Paris," a quintessential album co-led by John Lewis and Sacha Distel. Originally recorded in December 1956, this album showcases a harmonious blend of American and French jazz talents, making it a must-have for jazz aficionados.
A Collaborative Jazz Masterpiece
This exceptional recording features John Lewis on piano and Sacha Distel on guitar, accompanied by the remarkable Barney Wilen on tenor saxophone, Pierre Michelot or Percy Heath on bass, and Connie Kay or Kenny Clarke on drums. The album includes memorable tracks like “Willow Weep for Me,” “All The Things You Are,” and “Bags’ Groove,” alongside Lewis’ own “Afternoon in Paris.” The lyrical solos by the then 19-year-old Wilen are a highlight, demonstrating his rapid maturity as a saxophonist.
