Eumovate Description
Eumovate is a steroid used to treat mild skin conditions that lead to inflammation and itching.
The active ingredient works by reducing inflammation to help ease your symptoms.
Comes as a cream for moist skin, or an ointment for dry skin. Apply as instructed every day.

What is Eumovate?

Eumovate comes in both cream and ointment forms, with clobetasone butyrate as the active ingredient. It's used to treat mild skin conditions where the skin is inflamed and itchy. However, it's not suitable for treating itchy skin that isn't inflamed.

Dermatitis, often referred to as eczema, is a term used to cover a range of skin conditions that cause inflammation. If you have dermatitis, your skin might become dry, itchy, and occasionally crack or feel sore. There are several types of dermatitis, such as atopic dermatitis, photodermatitis, and contact dermatitis.

Photodermatitis, often called "sun allergy," causes rashes similar to eczema on your skin. This occurs when your skin is exposed to sunlight or certain substances that become irritating when mixed with light. There are different types of photodermatitis, such as polymorphic light eruption, solar urticaria, and actinic prurigo.

Does Eumovate contain a steroid?

Yes, the active ingredient in Eumovate is clobetasone butyrate, which is a type of corticosteroid, or steroid for short. Steroids are sorted into categories based on how strong they are: 'mild', 'moderately potent', 'potent', or 'very potent'. Clobetasone butyrate is considered a moderately potent steroid, placing it in the middle range.

Mild and moderately potent treatments usually have a lower risk of side effects than the two strongest categories.

How does Eumovate cream work for dermatitis?

Eumovate contains clobetasone butyrate, a steroid that works in various ways when applied to your skin. It helps reduce inflammation, eases itching, and narrows blood vessels.

Clobetasone works by lowering the number of mast cells, which are responsible for releasing histamine, a molecule that can trigger allergies and inflammation. It also reduces the production of other inflammation-related molecules, such as cytokines and arachidonic acid.

How long does it take Eumovate to work for dermatitis?

It's hard to pinpoint exactly how long it will take, as it can differ for each person. This depends on the size of the skin area affected by dermatitis, how severe your condition is, and how well you respond to the treatment. Generally, you might notice less itching and inflammation after a few days, but it could take longer for the rashes to visibly improve.

If your skin hasn't improved after four weeks, reach out to your clinician for guidance.

What is the difference between Eumovate cream and ointment?

Eumovate cream and ointment both contain the same concentration of clobetasone butyrate, which is 0.05% (so each gram has 0.5mg of clobetasone). This means they work in much the same way. However, the cream and ointment feel different because they have different inactive ingredients, known as excipients. This makes the ointment greasier than the cream.

That's why Eumovate ointment is effective for dry and scaly skin. It penetrates dry skin more effectively than the cream, allowing your skin to absorb more of the active ingredient. Therefore, if your dermatitis leads to dry skin, your clinician might suggest using the ointment for improved results.

Eumovate cream has a moisturising base and is effective for dermatitis, especially when your skin is damp and weeping.

What alternatives are there to Eumovate for dermatitis?

There are several alternatives to Eumovate, and treatment options may include creams, ointments, or lotions. If you need personalised advice for dermatitis or photodermatitis, a clinician can assist you in selecting the most suitable treatment.

Usually, healthcare professionals start with the mildest steroid suitable for your condition to minimise the risk of side effects.

Dermovate is a topical treatment used for dermatitis, containing a very strong steroid known as clobetasol propionate. It's designed for short-term use in treating more severe inflammatory and itchy conditions that haven't improved with milder corticosteroids, such as Eumovate.

Betamethasone valerate, known by the brand name Betnovate, comes in both cream and ointment forms. While both betamethasone and clobetasone (found in Eumovate) work similarly in the body, betamethasone is stronger. However, a clinical study showed that Eumovate cream was equally effective as 0.1% betamethasone valerate cream for treating atopic or contact dermatitis after two and four weeks of use.

Topical hydrocortisone can be used to treat various forms of dermatitis, such as photodermatitis. You can usually purchase mild hydrocortisone products from your local pharmacy. Research involving 29 clinical trials showed that clobetasone butyrate 0.05% is more effective for treating eczema than 1.0% hydrocortisone.

Can you buy Eumovate over the counter for dermatitis?

No, you can't get Eumovate without a prescription. A healthcare professional needs to evaluate your condition to ensure it's safe for you. Although it contains a moderately potent topical steroid with a lower risk of serious side effects, a clinician must determine if it's the right treatment for you and safe to use.

Can I use Eumovate on my face?

Yes, you can safely use both Eumovate cream and ointment on your face and neck if milder corticosteroids haven't been effective and your clinician advises it. However, when applying it to your face, be sure to avoid your mouth, eyes, and nose. Also, follow the treatment duration your clinician suggests to avoid side effects such as skin thinning or increased sensitivity.

Can I use Eumovate on broken skin?

Avoid applying Eumovate cream or ointment on skin that is broken or infected. This can increase the chance of side effects and might worsen your condition by letting more of the medication enter your bloodstream.

Can Eumovate cause any side effects?

Eumovate cream and ointment can lead to some side effects, though they're quite uncommon and only impact a small number of people (1 in 10,000). Possible side effects include:

If you've been using Eumovate for a long time and choose to stop, you might encounter what's known as a ‘steroid withdrawal reaction.’ This can appear as redness of the skin, a burning or stinging feeling, intense itching, skin peeling, or open sores that ooze. If you experience these symptoms after stopping the treatment, it's best to consult your clinician for guidance.

Does Eumovate cream lighten skin?

In rare instances (affecting about 1 in 10,000 people), Eumovate might cause minor changes in your skin colour. However, these changes are temporary, and your skin should return to its normal colour once you stop the treatment.

Great durable ball
One of my dog’s favorite toy. We have had this ball for almost a year and it is still intact. My Doberman loves it and has not been able to destroy it. The size is comparable to s tenis ball. It has a little weight to it witch makes it easy to trow further.

Best toy I’ve ever gotten for my dog
The toy allows you to interact with your dog in a way that I didn’t realize was so important until I adopted a dog who was ball obsessed and a bit disconnected. We have bonded so much over this toy and it has held up so much better than 95% of the toys I’ve gotten, which have all been labeled as high-quality or durable. It is perfect for playing fetch and for tugging, as well as training. The only thing worth noting is that the rope is thin enough that it can be uncomfortable to tug with a large or strong dog. I usually wrap a leash around my hip and hook it to the rope when we are doing intense tugging (because my 75 pound dog would win otherwise). If you do go for a tug toy that has a more comfortable handle, it will not bounce and be easy for a dog to run around with in the same way. This rope makes the weight heavily in favor of the ball, so it acts more like a ball and the dog is more inclined to grab the ball. I think this toy finds right balance of ball to rope.

So good, I repurchased
This is one of my dog's fave fetch toys, and after losing it in a grassy field, I repurchased. The ball is heavy and durable, and the rope is sturdy and just the right length for flinging. When this comes out, my dog knows we're playing fetch! There's no strange smell out of the package, and while my 70lb Samoyed isn't a hard chewer, he hasn't put a dent or nick in the ball itself. It's not so hard that I'd be worried about him gnawing on it, either.

Great ball much improvement on thr rope
I have to say that I absolutely live this ball. The ball itself is a great sturdy and very tough ball. The rope however needs improved. It should be a much more durable, heavy duty rope. I have 4 large dogs. I do not let them chew this toy we play fetch with it but like any dog they tug (hard) and pull and do chew at it. I do not think that can be avoided, and thr rope doesn't hold up.

Excellent for heavy chewers
Excellent toy for heavy chewers like malinois! The rope makes it easy to throw farther. Good amount of bounce as well. Definitely need to supervise as it could be a choking hazard for larger breeds.
