"Dense, inky syrah from a very favourable vintage. Cassis, dried fruits, plum, prune, raspberry, black pepper, violet and spicy-oak flavours supported by ripe, sweet tannins. Still a little youthful and locked-in but will certainly benefit from careful cellaring" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2021

"A fascinating, complex bouquet and palate with aromas and flavours of roasted dark berries, wood smoke and violets. There’s kitchen baking spices and reflecting the use of oak, but also the sense of place with a silty and stony mineral clay flavours. Harmonious on the palate, youthful as well with a fine back bone of acidity masked by the core of fruit and sweetness of French oak. A delicious wine ready to drink from 2021 through 2030+. Will age well if stored well" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2021

"The 2019 vintage (4.5*) was matured for 18 months in French oak hogsheads (20 per cent), and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Three points to note: the 2019 vintage was released before the 2018; Dry River's Syrah vines have been removed, as many were dying; the last vintage will be 2020. Dark and purple-flushed, it is fresh and vibrantly fruity, with plum and spice flavours, fresh acidity, notable concentration, but also a slight lack of optimal ripeness and warmth. Still very youthful, it's well worth cellaring" Michael Cooper, Mar 2022

This wine has seduction and indulgence written all over it. The wine is eager to please and wants to show its magic. It was lightly affected by the October frost; thus, yields were down. Combined with the warm Summer and long Autumn, ripening Syrah was effortless.

Roasted coffee beans, mocha and cacao nibs show the deeper, ripe and more mature sides. The boysenberries, brambles and violets bring prettiness back into the wine. The 18 months in barrel helped to show further complexity in the wine through black olive tapenade, bacon fat and a touch of cedar. The oak is noticeable as a furry cloak.

The entrance of the palate is seamless, and the wine can be embraced with arms wide open, so to speak. Despite the effortless entry it is still a youthful wine with ample ‘lively ’tannins that subside into the fruit and vibrant acidity. Iodine, smoke and a gain the bacon fat character, together with the fruit of the forest, make up for the indulgence and stamina.

This is a complete wine already with an exciting future for another 10 years.

Brings history to life
Format: Paperback
Got this book as a read aloud before traveling to London. We did a tour of the Tower of London and used the map in this book, marking off the different parts we walked theough- talking about which parts were the setting of different scenes in the book. Reading this gave my kids a real love and personal connection to the Tower. Cliffhanger endings to different chapters. My 9 and 6 year old lived it. My 4 year old couldn't keep up.

Accessible, fun, and exciting.
Format: Kindle
While this book is aimed at younger readers (it includes, for examples, expletives like "Zooks!" and "Zounds!"), I Escaped The Tower of London is a neat historical fiction novella with taught pacing that readers of all ages can enjoy. Using the real-life account of John Gerard as inspiration, the authors have created a young boy who escapes from the Tower of London while attempting to aid Princess Elizabeth during Queen Mary's reign. It's exciting, it fast-paced, and it even has a pleasant message about doing the right thing — even when the right thing is hard to do. It's packed with a hodgepodge of images (most of them public domain, but also a few original pieces) that add to the experience. And the end includes a brief lesson on the historical figures involved. Despite the source material, you shouldn't worry if you (or your young ones) are squeamish; the main character sidesteps the torture and there's very little violence. All in all, quite a good read. Very accessible, surprisingly fun and exciting.

I have bought all of the books in this series for my nephew and he LOVES them. I get an email whenever a new one is coming out and I can buy it (which I always do) if I would like. It makes it so easy to keep current on the series.
