The high, rectangular backs are elaborately carved in relief panels depicting male figures in period dress (hunters, musketeers, or peasants). This motif was very popular in rural French furniture from Brittany and Normandy around 1880–1910.The turned legs and stretchers—especially the block-and-ring turnings—are typical of Henri II Revival design. The small baluster spindles beneath the backrest panels are decorative and indicate high-quality regional craftsmanship. The crest rails are topped with scrolls and small finials, emphasizing the neo-Renaissance aesthetic.
