It’s not an uncommon story—the peninsula was split down the 38th parallel, dividing one country into two. As many fled violence in the north, not everyone was able to make it south. Her mother’s story inspired Gendry-Kim to begin interviewing her and other Koreans separated by the war; that research fueled a deeply resonant graphic novel. The Waiting is the fictional story of Gwija, told by her novelist daughter Jina. When Gwija was 17 years old, after hearing that the Japanese were seizing unmarried girls, her family married her in a hurry to a man she didn't know. Japan fell, Korea gained its independence, and the couple started a family. But peace didn’t come. The young family—now four—fled south. On the road, while breastfeeding and changing her daughter, Gwija was separated from her husband and son. Then 70 years passed. Seventy years of waiting. Gwija is now an elderly woman and Jina can’t stop thinking about the promise she made to help find her brother. Good quality and value for my son!

I bought the Gildan Men’s Crew T-Shirts multipack on Amazon for my 12-year-old son, who is on the heavier side and thus sometimes difficult to shop for. Pre-teen kids grow fast and go through clothes quickly, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on basics he’ll probably outgrow in a year. These shirts are really affordable, especially for a multipack, and the quality is surprisingly good for the price.
The fabric is soft and comfortable, and my son says they feel good to wear all day at school. They’re lightweight and did not shrink after washing. I also like that the shirts don’t get stretched out like some cheaper T-shirts do.
The fit works well for him too. They’re simple, classic crew neck tees that can be worn on their own or layered under hoodies and jackets. We’ve used them for school and just everyday wear.
Another thing I appreciate is that they’re easy to care for. I just toss them in the wash and dryer and they come out looking fine every time.
Overall, these are a great value. If you need affordable, comfortable basic T-shirts for a growing kid (or an adult!), this pack is definitely worth buying.
