Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect the battery and tilt the outboard motor to access the lower unit. Drain the gear oil completely and inspect for metal shavings or water contamination.
  2. Remove the propeller, cotter pin, and propeller shaft hardware. Set aside all components in a clean workspace.
  3. Detach the lower unit from the mid-section by removing the mounting bolts. Carefully lower the unit and disconnect the shift linkage.
  4. Disassemble the lower unit housing to expose the propeller shaft, drive shaft, and water pump assembly. Take note of the orientation of all seals.
  5. Remove all old seals, O-rings, and gaskets from the housing, shafts, and bearing carriers. Clean all surfaces thoroughly with solvent and a soft brush.
  6. Inspect bearing surfaces and shaft splines for wear or damage. Replace bearings if necessary before installing new seals.
  7. Lubricate each new seal with gear oil before installation. Carefully press seals into position using the appropriate seal driver to avoid damage.
  8. Reassemble the lower unit components in reverse order, ensuring proper alignment of the drive shaft and shift linkage. Torque all fasteners to manufacturer specifications.
  9. Reinstall the lower unit onto the mid-section, reconnecting the shift linkage and water tube. Secure with mounting bolts and torque to spec.
  10. Refill the lower unit with the manufacturer-recommended gear oil through the fill hole until oil appears at the vent hole. Install both drain and vent plugs with new washers.
  11. Reinstall the propeller shaft hardware and propeller, securing with the cotter pin. Rotate the propeller by hand to ensure smooth operation.
  12. Reconnect the battery, lower the motor, and perform a water test to verify proper shifting, cooling, and seal integrity. Check for leaks after initial operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this seal kit fits my Honda outboard?
A: Verify your engine model number (stamped on the mounting bracket or swivel) matches one of the compatible models listed: BF35AM, BF40A, BF40AW, BF40AX, BF45AM, BF50A, BF50AW, or BF50AX. You can also cross-reference the OEM part number 14ZV50M with your service manual.

Q: How often should I replace the lower unit seals?
A: Replace seals whenever you perform lower unit service, experience gear oil leaks, or notice milky oil indicating water intrusion. Typically, seals are replaced during major lower unit rebuilds or every 3-5 years depending on usage and operating conditions.

Q: What are the signs that my lower unit seals are failing?
A: Common symptoms include gear oil leaking from the propeller shaft area, milky or contaminated gear oil during regular checks, difficulty shifting gears, or unusual noise from the lower unit. Inspect seals immediately if any of these signs appear.

Q: Can I install this seal kit without special tools?
A: While basic hand tools suffice for disassembly, proper seal installation requires seal drivers or appropriately sized sockets to avoid damaging the new seals. A service manual with torque specifications and alignment procedures is highly recommended for successful installation.

Q: Does this kit include all the seals needed for a complete lower unit rebuild?
A: This kit contains the essential seals for lower unit service. Verify the contents against your service manual's parts diagram to ensure all required seals for your specific rebuild are included, as some applications may require additional gaskets or O-rings sold separately.

Q: Is this an OEM part or aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Great option for boys or girls
Size: 13 Little Kid, Color: Black, Size: 13 Little Kid, Color: Black
This is really more of a unisex option for a sandal. I have sandals that look like this, and both of my children have worn this style. I ordered these for my daughter, with the plan to pass them down to my son if they're not too worn when she outgrows them. The style is very minimalistic, so it goes with lots of outfits. All the straps are easily adjustable, so you can get a good fit. I would say the length is true to size, but the width is maybe a bit wide. Nevertheless, the adjustable straps really help them fit well. They feel really sturdy and I appreciate that the sole has cushion to it. My daughter has worn these every day since I got them out of the closet and they're holding up well.

They are oddly very wide. Great for kids with wide chunky feet but for us it was not cute
