- Their nickname "Russian Blues" came into existence as they were brought into the Alaskan bead trade by Russian fur traders to the west coast of the United States and Canada during the 19th Century.
- These exquisitely colored and faceted beads also entered the African Trade, mainly through Nigeria and Ghana. They are identical to the versions used in North America and Canada as they came from the same factories in Bohemia (situated today in the northern part of the Czech Republic and a small part of what used to be East Germany). Bohemian factories had been making glassware, vases and cups since the 12th century.
- There are two types of glass techniques from which Russian Blues were created; drawn tubes or moulded manufacture.
- Russian Blues that were created from drawn tubes underwent the following process: a bubble is formed in a blob of hot molten glass. The blob is then stretched out onto the end of a metal tube, creating a hot glass tube that is then cut into smaller sections forming beads. The initial bubble becomes the hole in the bead center. Individual beads were cut from 6 to 8 sided simple or compound (two layer) tubes. Each bead then was ground by hand at different angles creating a multi-faceted effect, sometimes as sparkling as a gemstone. The number of facets and degree of quality was dependent on the skill of the glass faceting/ grinding craftsman. Some of the largest Russian Blue shapes can have as many as fifty or more facets.
- Russian Blues that were created in the moulded process underwent the following procedure: thick rods of glass are heated to molten consistency and fed into a complex apparatus that stamps the glass, including a needle that pierces a hole. The beads again are rolled in hot sand to remove flashing and soften seam lines. In some of the moulded beads, the left over glass in the seams of the mold was removed by hand finishing. Pressed or molded beads are associated with lower labour costs.

I've been looking into various kits and components but this one seemed to fit my needs perfectly - all components included and the flexibility to cut strips (up to 6) to the lengths I needed. Its also very thin and needs no other mounting hardware, channels, diffusers, screws, etc.
No instructions - but everything only fits together one way except which end of the LED strip to connect to (polarity). For my reel, it was towards the center of the reel and not the freed end - which meant I had to cut a piece off and connect the end that was just cut. Insert the cut end into the connect after peeling off a bit of the blue tape. You can also peel off a little bit of the white tape beneath that to expose the copper contacts - but the connector contacts can pierce that layer if you don't want to peel off the white layer also. (Don't peel it all off, just enough to to fit into the connector.) Insert the end, press down the hinged part until it clicks or is otherwise all the way clamped - don't need tools, just your fingers squeezing it is enough. Test the assembly by plugging it into the power supply. You can also connect the remote - a blue LED on the power supply tells you whether its on or off.
Once I figured out which end to connect to, everything was quite straightforward. I installed my 6 strips in my small pantry - one for each shelf - and routed all the wires to one side, mostly hidden. I mounted the remote on the pantry door - it can sense through the door - which is not very thick - as well as just tapping it once the door is open. The remote can be touchless - just wave your hand near it - but it seems to also sense tapping from some objects. Holding down on the remote activates dimming - it will cycle through brightness and stop when you release.
Other than that, its as simple as I had hoped and took me about an hour to install (I expect my next install will be 30 mins). I am planning to order more kits for other closets, kitchen, etc.

UPDATED: Replacement works great

FINAL UPDATE: Seller shipped new power unit and it works great now. The lights are really great and super easy to cut to size and use.
UPDATE 1: Seller got in touch and is sending replacement power unit. Will update again once it arrives.
I do really like the look of these and they did wonders for a dark park of my closet that has built-ins.
ORIGINAL: Lights stopped working after about 6 weeks (beyond the 30 day return policy). Seems like the control unit died. Haven’t found any feasible way to contact seller or manufacturer. Will update review if anything changes.

Light it up!

I am very happy with these. They are easy to use. The only reason I am not giving a five star review is because the instructions and assembly weren’t the easiest. At first we could not get them to work. After looking through the reviews, one man told us that the -\+ were backwards and we tried what he suggested and they worked. I do suggest that because there are two light reels there should be two connecter boxes as well. We had to purchase two packages. Overall, We are satisfied with our purchase.

Quality just isn’t there

Was very excited to receive this product because I had difficulty lighting op these LED strip lights, this looks like a package that had everything that I needed.
First off, the strip lights themselves are very thin with wise and would look funny on my project, the adhesive backing did not stick at all once removed
The touch sensor works great for about 10 minutes and then completely died, overall not impressed with the quality of this product, sending back
