"From relatively old vines (30+ years) most on their own roots. Seductively smooth-textured wine with ripe berry, plum, floral, black pepper and subtle wood smoke flavours. Delicious, complex red with good cellaring potential. Clearly from a top vintage. Good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Dec 2021

"Richly fruited and enticing with blackcurrant, spiced cherry, game, tobacco and roasted nut aromas, it's generous and flavoursome in the mouth with excellent weight and persistency. Plump and fleshy with a prolonged delicious finish" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2021

"Deep, ruby-red with a dark core, moderately full, lighter on edge. The nose is full and youthful; red berries, plum aromas interweave new leather, cedar, violet and spice. Medium full bodied, elegantly presented, red plum, berries enriched by leather, cedar; violet and spice unfold, linger with black liquorice and blackcurrant leaf to a long, sustained dry finish. The wine has a posied structure supported by finely weaved silky tannin, expended with oak spice and an integrated acid line. The wine possesses power and good energy generated by richness and concentration. This is readily delicious, with elegant and poise on a well-structured palate" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Nov 2021

"Fascinating nose, stony, iron filings, dust, blood, bramble, humus, the fruit folded in. Sweet fruit on entry, adding forest floor, hay, cocoa, crushed leaf and dark chocolate. Deceptive tannic charge, but they’re quite fine, this combines power and intensity with style and elegance, already open for business. There’s a bit of intrigue here that makes you think" Mark Henderson Otago Daily Times, Mar 2022

Upon release it is an intense garnet colour. The bouquet is an arresting melange of black fruit and savoury aromas. Dark cherry, blackcurrant and plum soon morph into truffle, woodsmoke, leather and spice, along with faint mineral notes. In the mouth the wine is full bodied and assertive, laden with ripe elegant tannins and a classic structure. The larger Merlot component ensures the blend remains succulent and fruit driven, however there is a backbone of perfectly judged acid and tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec that balances the wine, offering outstanding depth and harmony. While ready to drink now, it will evolve gracefully in the bottle for many years to come.

The vineyard is located within the Waipara Valley of North Canterbury, on free draining, north facing terraces. It benefits from being in the lee of the Teviotdale Range, giving maximum protection from the Pacific’s easterly breezes and thus creating a unique mesoclimate. The vines are over 30 years old, with a large proportion planted on their own roots. They are located on the “Glasnevin Gravels” where greywacke stones, silt and loam have been washed down from the mountains over the millennia. The soil is of low fertility, resulting in naturally reduced vine vigour. This produces low yields of optimally ripened, high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of this unique terroir. The vineyard has warm days, but the nights are amongst the coolest in the Waipara Valley, drawing out the ripening period of the grapes, while still retaining good natural acidity.

Unsettled weather over flowering resulted in a lighter than average set, meaning that no further fruit thinning was necessary. A classic North Canterbury summer then enabled this smaller crop to mature beautifully. Accelerated ripening allowed harvest to take place slightly earlier than usual, and favourable autumn weather ensured the grapes were picked in perfect condition.

This wine is made in the same style as the celebrated Claret from Bordeaux, using traditional methods. After being picked in late April, the grapes began fermentation naturally in stainless steel tanks. During this process the juice was regularly pumped over the cap of floating grape skins (rather than plunging), to ensure a perfect tannin balance was extracted from the fruit. The wine was then gently pressed off and put into French oak barriques (25% new). The following summer, when the weather warmed, it underwent a natural malo-lactic (secondary) fermentation. After maturing in oak for 18mths, the various batches were then carefully blended in varying portions to produce the most complex and balanced wine possible. The finished product is predominately Merlot, with the remainder comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and a small amount of Malbec.

The Donaldson Family have been seriously involved in viticulture and winemaking for over 40 years. Founder Ivan Donaldson planted the first Canterbury vineyard in 1976 and went on to establish Pegasus Bay in 1986 with his wife Christine. It is a true family business, with all four of their sons now involved.

Hard to fill and time consuming but fun concept
Color: Green
Cute and fun concept for my dog. He enjoyed pulling out the strips and getting the treats it was hard to shove the pieces back in after rolling treats into it. I used small training treats and it still made it bulky and hard to shove back in. If the strips were shoved too far in it’s hard to get it out. I was suprised my 120 lb malamute didn’t rip the treat strips so the quality of the fabric holds up well. The ball material itself is thick and quality and he didn’t rip the rubber apart either. The strips once out seemed difficult for him to unroll and he lost interest after pulling a few out and he enjoys his other puzzle toys more.

Great puzzle, even better complimentary squeaky carrot
Color: Red, Color: Red
Our dog is a Jack Russell mix and needs near constant interaction. In the winter, it gets so cold that we can't always get him out for long enough periods of time to satisfy his poor bored little brain. I've tried so many puzzles. He gets frustrated and bored quickly, and ends up just barking at them. One game that he loves in winter though, is what we call "the blanket game" and it's when we hide one of his favorite toys in an old blanket, wrap it all up, and then let him loose to find the toy. He can play this game over and over, for over an hour if we have the energy. So, when I saw this ball, I knew I had to try it. He loves it. He begs me to let him have it at least once a day and it gives him a good 5-10 minutes of play. He'd play it more if I let him have that many treats, haha. But I had to say that, true to form, his REAL favorite part of the puzzle ball was the complimentary carrot toy that came with it. He is obsessed with the carrot. He carries it everywhere. It goes to bed with him. He never loses it, always knows exactly where Carrot is. He even knows the word "carrot" now, after only a week or so of having our dear, beloved Carrot. I can ask him, "go get Carrot," and he brings it right to me. It is the only toy he ever brings me now. The squeaker is long dead, he killed it within the first couple days, but he still chews it relentlessly, listening for the little air puff sounds it makes now. So anyway, the ball is great. Love it. But the carrot? Is an epic find. I included a picture so you can see how utterly filthy it is from how much he loves it (don't worry, it's going in the washer). Thank you for this random carrot. It might be the best thing to happen to our weird little family this winter.

Basic Starter Puzzle, But Not Very Durab
Color: Red
This toy is more like a level 1 puzzle—it doesn’t take long at all for my 1-year-old, 5 lb Papillon to figure it out. The ball part is sturdy enough, but the cloth sections are very soft and not durable. I worry about him tearing into it and possibly swallowing threads, so I only let him play with it under close supervision. If you just need a simple puzzle to introduce your dog to enrichment toys, this could work. But if you’re looking for something that lasts longer or provides more of a challenge, this isn’t it. Pros: • Works as a very basic starter puzzle • Ball portion is fairly sturdy • Good for quick enrichment sessions Cons: • Cloth material is soft and easy to damage • Requires close supervision to prevent chewing or tearing • Not challenging for dogs beyond beginner level Overall, I’m giving it 3 stars. It does the job as an entry-level puzzle, but it’s not durable and doesn’t offer much mental stimulation. UPDATE: The company reached out after my review and provided good customer service, which I really appreciated.
