2020 Radar Katana Slalom Water Ski

The Katana is a ski that many intermediate skiers will find to be a great ride.  The reason is, it is designed to be skied at 30 mph or less.  26 to 30 mpg is a  very comfortable speed for less aggressive, more of a freeride, open water skier.  Most water skis are based on shapes that are intended to ski much faster.  Simply making a ski wider does not make it significantly better at slower speeds.  So instead, Radar started with a clean sheet of design paper, and engineered a shape that is actually better at 30 mph and lower because it is designed from the ground up to be skied in that speed range.

The result is the Radar Bent V series of open water, freeride skis, and the Katana is the intermediate level ski in this series.  Yes, it starts with a wider shape.  This is important, because it makes the ski easier to get up on from a deep water start.  But where it is wider is also important.  With more width under the back foot, the back of the ski comes up out of the water quicker, helping the ski plane on top of the water faster, and with less effort.

Another important difference is in the sidecut shape of the ski.  Between the widest part of the ski in the area under the back foot, and the narrowest point at the front binding, there is an inside radius shape.  This inside radius shape in the center of the ski creates a natural turning shape.  The result is a ski that not only skis well at slower speeds, but it also turns very, very easily.  If you stand a bit too far forward, the wide tip shape helps keep the tip up.  If you get more weight on the tail, the wider section at the back helps keep the tail up.  And, the inside radius shape creates a natural turn when the ski is tipped on edge.

And then, Radar also rethought how the tunnel should be shaped on a slower speed ski.  Simply making the tunnel wider makes a ski less stable.  But, having a narrow tunnel on a wider ski also creates lots of flat surface on each side, which also makes the ski more slippery.  So, the solution is to add two grooves down each side of the tunnel.  These grooves help guide the ski through the turn, keeping it tracking and predictable throughout the arc of the turn.  Additionally, a flat spot was added down the center of the main tunnel to reduce drag, and also to create a natural spot for the skier to stand on the ski through the turn.

The final result is a ski that is super easy to turn, incredibly predictable and very easy to deep water start.  If you are looking for a new design to make skiing more fun and less fatiguing, Katana is a great choice.  Or, if you are looking for a first ski that will make learning to ski easier and more fun, this is it!

You can choose to buy this BWF (blank with fin) or match it up with the Radar Prime binding on super light Feather FRame plates.  It is a perfect match to the ski, with a slightly lower profile, and only one set (upper) laces to deal with.  And, it is nylon lined, so it is not necessary to use any binding lube to slide it on your foot.  This is one of the easiest bindings on the market to put on and take off.  Choose either double Prime, of Print front with ARTP rear plate.  Available sizes are S (US shoe size 4-8) M (US shoe size 7 to 11) or XL (US shoe size 10-14).

Thanks for looking.  Let us know if you have any Qs about this ski, or about water skis in general.  We love to help.

Great price and very quiet
Color: Black
I use the Honeywell TurboForce HT-900 in my home office to help with airflow around my computer setup, and it’s been a solid performer for the price. Despite its small size, it moves a surprising amount of air. On high, it pushes a strong, focused stream that actually reaches across the room. Medium is what I use most often since it balances good circulation with reasonable noise, and low is quiet enough to run in the background without being distracting. Noise levels are generally acceptable. Low and medium are fairly quiet with a consistent hum, while high is noticeably louder but still not unbearable for short bursts. It’s also very simple to position and use. The head tilts easily, so you can aim airflow exactly where you need it, and the compact size makes it easy to place on a desk without taking up much space. Overall, it’s a straightforward, no-frills fan that does its job well. Strong airflow, simple controls, and good value for the price.

Powerful and long lasting
Color: Black
I purchased a blue colored one in May 2022 and it finally went out a few days ago. I ran this thing almost constantly as im going through menopause and it came to be a staple at my bedside. 4 years of running ALL THE TIME! Great little fan with a ton of airflow to keep me cool during night sweats. And it has just enough white noise to distract from outside noise. Also, the motor power never differentiated after using for so long. It was still strong. I just ordered another one to replace it and cant wait for it to arrive so I can sleep again! Only thing is they only have bakck or white instead of blue this time but thats ok as long as it performs.

Small fan, serious power
Color: Black
I bought the Honeywell Turboforce Fan for my bedroom, and I’m honestly impressed with how powerful this little thing is. Don’t let the compact size fool you — it moves a lot of air. On the lowest setting it’s perfect for a gentle breeze while sleeping, and the higher settings can easily cool down a medium-sized room or help circulate AC much more efficiently. The 90-degree pivoting head is a great feature. I can angle it upward for better air circulation or point it directly at me when it’s extra hot. It’s lightweight, easy to move around, and doesn’t take up much space on a desk or nightstand. It can also be wall-mounted, which is a nice bonus. Noise level is reasonable. On low, it’s actually a pleasant white noise. Medium and high are louder, but not in an annoying way — just the sound of strong airflow. Build quality feels solid for the price, and it’s been running daily without any issues. For the cost, this fan seriously overperforms. If you need a compact, affordable, and powerful fan, this is a no-brainer. I’d absolutely buy it again.

Good value for a powerful fan.
Color: Black
Powerful fan. It’s just a 100 square foot room but you can feel the fan clear across the room. The unit feels durable but it is also extremely lightweight. Easy to move room to room. The fan can face straight ahead or angle to face upwards. It is easy to change the angle of the fan, simply tilt the body and it clicks into place. It does not face downward. When faced upwards it does well to circulate air around the room. It is somewhat loud on higher settings but that is to be expected. At $14.99 this was priced a bit lower than similar units. It’s a good value so far as it is performing well.
