MOSES'S STORY

Moses is the owner of Karl’s Fashion and Tailoring Center. Like Asha, Moses was in the first Idea 4 Africa workshop two years ago. Equipped with business knowledge and sewing skills, he would go home to garden and save his money little by little in hopes to one day open a business. In October of 2018, he did just that with just one sewing machine. With a heart to grow his business, he soon acquired two more sewing machines so that he could teach two people who signed up as students with him. At the time of our visit, he was teaching three young women how to how to sew.

Moses's biggest challenge is the lack of electricity that slows him down immensely because all the machines are run manually. This restricts his working hours to day light hours only. He is securing a deal with a local school to sew their uniforms; a job that will require faster machines and more time. With our support, Moses would be able to get the workshop rooms wired and connected to the local power grid, something that will greatly impact his business and livelihood, as well as so many others. He now has students signing up for a 10 months sewing course and he anticipates once his work space has electricity, enrollment will grow enabling him to empower others and the ripple continues on.
