The Dire Wolf bass is not merely a tribute—it’s a living extension of a legendary instrument. Designed to capture the essence of Jerry Garcia’s tone and Doug Irwin’s craftsmanship, it’s now in the hands of one of the most expressive bassists of today. Expect to hear it further as renowned bassist Oteil Burbridge takes it on the road through performances that honor, reinterpret, and expand the sonic legacy of the Grateful Dead. We can create your very own Dire Wolf Bass that can be customized with a special back inlay design or you can have inlay replicating the symbolic ankh like on Oteils instrument. These will be made in limited production.

This custom six-string bass built in the style of Jerry Garcia’s iconic “Wolf” guitar—doubling the design two octaves lower - is the first-ever Doug Irwin–certified Wolf‑style bass, hand‑built by Bill Asher in collaboration with original creator Doug Irwin.

The Dire Wolf bass was presented as a gift to Oteil by the Grateful Guitars Foundation at its debut performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater on July 6 2025 at a Jerry Garcia tribute concert.  The bass was accompanied by a $5,000 donation to Can’dAid to support music education in the local area.

The first piece of wood used came from the Doug Irwin’s decades-old private collection and he personally cut the wood in a filmed moment that moved Oteil to tears.

Debut & Performances

  • Debuted July 6, 2025, at the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, performed alongside the Colorado Symphony with Melvin Seals, Jacklyn LaBranch, Tom Hamilton, Duane Trucks, and Lady Chi. The bass made an immediate impression on stage.
  • In addition to orchestral pieces, Oteil performed a two-bass collaboration with Phish’s Mike Gordon, trading licks on “Lay Down Sally,” “Tangled Up in Blue,” and “Deal.” The dramatic pairing highlighted the power and articulation of the Dire Wolf bass.
  • Oteil continued touring with the Dire Wolf, including performances at the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary shows in Golden Gate Park with Dead & Company.

Significance

  • Bridges Jerry Garcia’s legacy into bass form—melding iconic tone, look, and spirit with deep bottom-end power.
  • Demonstrates the continued influence and reverence of Doug Irwin’s craftsmanship, recreated in a bold new way by Bill Asher.
  • Symbol of the collaborative effort to pass the Grateful Dead ethos forward through modern players and instruments.

Great product
Color: Grey, Size: 34"- 6 Panel
This room divider is great. It was easy to put together. I was worried about it standing up right and not falling over. It stays up perfectly and is very easy to move and adjust to the shape I want it. Also, from one of the videos I watched it looked like the fabric was puckered in the panels. That is not the case at all. The fabric fits tightly in each panel for a nice smooth look. I would definitely recommend this and would buy again if needed.

Awful.
Color: Black, Size: 22"- 4 Panel
Easiest one star review ever. I'm writing this with bloody fingers from assembling this. Multiple poles were bent, none of the pole connectors worked, the hex wrench broke in my hand, the screws didn't really go into the holes provided (I had to get a friend with a press drill to widen the holes to make it work), there are sharp edges on the poles where there is a seam, and doesn't look that great once assembled. Easy do not buy, the only reason I didn't return is because it would have been tough to disassemble the half I got through in the first 5 hours of building (mostly spent fixing the product delivered)

Great Product that does exactly what it says it will.
Color: Beige, Size: 34"- 3 Panel
I really enjoy this product and it does exactly what it describes. I use it on my balcony. It is effective, but still very lightweight. It is easy to assemble as well. The price point is excellent. Also, I had an interaction with the company about an issue and they were incredibly responsive and helpful, fixing the issue immediately. Highly recommend.

Great WFH screen for video calls
Color: Black, Size: 22"- 4 Panel
I share a workspace with my hubs since we both work from home. I have the attention span of a 🐿️ and need this so I can focus on my work and not get distracted by him, since he is very amusing to watch. This screen is very lightweight and the panels can move and create a little cubicle around your workspace. I personally loved cubicles & despise open space seating, even at home. The ADHDer in my loves being able to block things away from my field of vision. These panels also hide any mess behind you, especially if you forget to blur the background on Teams or Zoom calls or if you don’t have the option to change your backgrounds. This was fairly easy to put together and very easy to move and adjust. The screen is a much better option than a sheet as I’ve seen others use on calls.🤦🏻‍♀️😂 I’m not sure how it will stand up around rambunctious pets or kids, but fairly certain it takes quite a push to knock it over. We have four cats & I’m pretty sure someone would try to climb this, which is why they’re not allowed in our workspace.

Difficult to assemble, but a good basic divider
Color: Beige, Size: 22"- 4 Panel
I bought this to use as a background for when I have video calls. I wish I'd ordered the 6- or even 8-panel to block a little more, but that's my own error. It still covers a good portion of the room, so I'll make do, or maybe buy another at a later date to expand it. It looks ok, if a little plain. The fabric panels have creases in them from being folded and will need to be steamed or ironed out for a nicer look. It would be easy to make your own panels as well, if you're so inclined. The construction is decent. The frame is lightweight and if you don't angle the base supports the right way it may tip over if you extend it too far. The fabric panels aren't the highest quality, but are sturdy enough. They seem like they would handle being thrown in the wash well. The only issue I have with it is that it was so difficult to put together. The push latches that connect the poles don't push it well and hurt my hands. The fabric panels are sized to be extremely taut, which makes it very difficult to get them on the bars without forcing the bar to bend slightly. Overall, this is a good divider if you're looking for something simple and functional without being too worried about aesthetic. It's also a good, inexpensive base if you want to make your own custom panels.
