The inclusion of work by historic deceased poets in the Black Spirits program was a historic first in the 20+ years of CBA's Broadside Reading Series, which previously had only featured contemporary living poets.
About the Broadside
Center for Book Arts artist Alix Pentecost-Farren designed and produced this broadside for the poem Young Farm Woman Alone by historic deceased poet Ai on the occasion of CBA's Fall 2021 Broadside Reading: Black Spirits. The inclusion of work by historic deceased poets in the Black Spirits program was a historic first in the 20+ years of CBA's Broadside Reading Series, which previously had only featured contemporary living poets. In addition to Pentecost-Farren's broadside for historic deceased poet Ai, CBA artists Yusuf Hassan and Claudia Cortinez designed and produced broadsides for historic deceased poets Amiri Baraka and Kamau Brathwaite, respectively, as part of the Black Spirits program.
