Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect the fuel line from the old fuel pump and ensure the engine is cool and off.
  2. Remove the mounting bolts or screws securing the old pump to the engine block.
  3. Carefully pull the old pump away, noting the position of the actuating arm or pushrod.
  4. Clean the mounting surface on the engine block to ensure a proper seal with the new gasket.
  5. Position the new gasket (included) on the mounting surface, aligning all bolt holes.
  6. Install the new fuel pump, ensuring the actuating arm engages correctly with the cam or pushrod.
  7. Hand-tighten the mounting bolts first, then torque to manufacturer specifications in a crisscross pattern.
  8. Reconnect the fuel lines, securing each connection with the provided cable ties to prevent leaks.
  9. Prime the fuel system by squeezing the primer bulb until firm resistance is felt.
  10. Start the engine and inspect all connections for fuel leaks while idling.
  11. If leaks are detected, shut down immediately and re-tighten connections or check gasket placement.
  12. Perform a short test run to confirm proper fuel delivery and engine performance.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this fuel pump fits my Johnson or Evinrude engine?
A: Cross-reference your engine's model, HP, and year with the compatibility table above. You can also check your existing pump for one of the OEM part numbers listed (397839, 391638, 395091, 397274) or consult the Johnson serial number guide linked in the Compatible Engine Models section.

Q: What are the signs that my fuel pump is failing?
A: Common symptoms include difficulty starting, engine stalling or sputtering under load, loss of power at higher RPMs, and visible fuel leaks around the pump body. If you notice any of these issues, inspect the pump diaphragm and gasket for wear or damage.

Q: How often should I replace the fuel pump on my outboard?
A: Fuel pumps typically last several seasons, but replacement intervals depend on usage and fuel quality. Inspect the pump annually for cracks, leaks, or diaphragm deterioration, and replace it if performance issues arise or every 3–5 years as preventive maintenance.

Q: Can I install this fuel pump myself, or do I need a marine mechanic?
A: Installation is straightforward for those with basic mechanical skills and tools. However, ensuring proper gasket sealing and correct actuating-arm alignment is critical. If you're unfamiliar with outboard fuel systems, professional installation is recommended.

Q: Does this pump work with both premix and oil-injected Johnson/Evinrude engines?
A: Yes, this fuel pump is compatible with 2-cylinder Johnson/Evinrude engines in both premix and oil-injection configurations within the specified HP and year range. Always verify your engine's fuel delivery setup before installation.

Q: Is this an OEM part or an aftermarket replacement?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.

I had used these plugs before in my 03 Honda Element and they performed well for 5 years or more so I considered these for use in my now 07 Honda CRV.

Bosch spark plug are okay... for now.
I'm ususally a Denso Iridium Long-Life or NGK Laser Iridium kind of guy for my Acura or Honda spark plugs. I purchased these on short noticed when I got hit with CEL, grabbed my OBD2 scanner read misfire in all 6 cylinder in my J35a8 (Acura TL Type-S) when I arrived home late that night; I know right, of all places thank goodness. Anyways, I further started to diagnose the car from the least expense before assume the most expensive parts; the spark plugs upon inspection showed they reach it service life. Grabbed my phone in hopes for an overnight prime shipping and encounter these Bosch spark plugs. I installed them the next morning before going to work and all 6 cylinders misfire went away. Sidebar spark plug gap were within factory spec and are somewhat similar to OE. Its been a few week so far still good 👍. For the price it wasn't expensive but I had to order two 4 pack cause the individual spark plug took a few days extra to ship. Gas mileage slightly improve not by a lot, but I'll take it since gas price have gone up. Make sure to properly torque it with either 1/4 or 3/8 torque wrench when I last check they slightly backed out. Since I torque it down to factory recommendation it has stay put since. Will update again in the near future...
