Released in 2003, the Kenwood DMC-S55 is dedicated to disc playback and does not have disc recording functionality.

The DMC-S** series was made in Japan. It was available in four colours; black, blue, silver, and violet.
It features a digital amplifier that delivers clear and powerful audio by reducing sound quality deterioration in the audio circuitry while also reducing power consumption.
Kenwood claimed that it could deliver up to 47 hours of continuous playback (SP mode) from a fully charged Kenwood gumstick battery.
