Blues for Allah is the eighth studio album by the Grateful Dead, released on September 1, 1975, through their own Grateful Dead Records label. Recorded during the band’s mid-1970s hiatus, the album marked a period of experimentation and renewal for the group. Working at Bob Weir’s home studio in Mill Valley, California, the Dead explored a more intricate and improvisational sound, drawing inspiration from jazz fusion and Middle Eastern tonalities. Produced collectively by the band, it remains one of their most adventurous studio efforts.

The album’s creation was largely studio-driven rather than road-tested, resulting in compositions that were complex and atmospheric. Tracks such as “Help on the Way,” “Slipknot!,” and “Franklin’s Tower” became essential parts of the Dead’s live canon, blending tight rhythmic interplay with open-ended improvisation. The contemplative “Crazy Fingers” and the multi-part title suite “Blues for Allah” showcased the group’s willingness to push beyond conventional rock structure, while “The Music Never Stopped” provided one of the album’s most accessible and enduring singles.

Upon its release, Blues for Allah reached number 12 on the Billboard 200, the band’s highest placement to that point. Though initial reviews were mixed, the album’s reputation has grown over time, praised for its fluid musicianship and sense of creative risk. Its unique fusion of American roots, jazz complexity, and global influences captured the spirit of a band redefining itself on its own terms. The 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, released in 2025, reaffirmed the album’s place as one of the Grateful Dead’s most innovative studio statements.

Great toy
Color: Blue
Great toy, too bad my Shih Tzu is afraid of it. I love the way the movement is subtle and random.

I wouldn’t recommend this for strong chewers.
Color: Orange, Color: Orange
Is it fun? Sure. Was it easy to charge and set up? Yep. That being said, this toy kind of fell flat for me. It really didn’t do any big movements once charged that I expected it to, so that was a bummer. I initially got it for my dog, but my cats were more interested in this than my dog was. The battery does seem to last a long time and the motor is pretty quiet. I WOULD NOT recommend this toy for strong chewers as the material for this is a foam rubber and I don’t think it’s durable enough for strong chewers. While the material makes this ball extremely lightweight for more movement, a strong chewer would have this disintegrated in five minutes flat. My Dog is a super strong chewer. I don’t think I would feel comfortable leaving him unattended with this because I know he would destroy it.

Well-designed and quiet, but didn’t keep my dog interested
Color: Blue
My dog was interested in this at first, but she would lose interest after a few minutes and move on. I do like that it’s quieter than the hard plastic ball toys, and the charge lasts well. The internal charging port that twists closed is also a nice design feature. That said, it will occasionally turn on by itself, which can be a little surprising. Overall, it has some nice features, but it just didn’t keep my dog engaged.
