The Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, was a native of Syrian Antioch, a companion of the holy Apostle Paul (Phil.1:24, 2 Tim. 4:10-11), and a physician enlightened in the Greek medical arts. Hearing about Christ, Luke arrived in Palestine and fervently accepted the preaching of salvation from the Lord Himself. As one of the Seventy Apostles, St Luke was sent by the Lord with the others to preach the Kingdom of Heaven during the Savior's earthly life (Luke 10:1-3).

After the Resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to Sts Luke and Cleopas on the road to Emmaus. Luke accompanied St Paul on his second missionary journey, and from that time they were inseparable. When Paul's coworkers had forsaken him, only Luke remained to assist him in his ministry (2 Tim. 4:10-11). After the martyric death of the First-Ranked Apostles Peter and Paul, St Luke left Rome to preach in Achaia, Libya, Egypt and the Thebaid. He ended his life by suffering martyrdom in the city of Thebes.

Tradition credits St Luke with painting the first icons of the Mother of God. Let the grace of Him Who was born of Me and My mercy be with these Icons, said the All-Pure Virgin after seeing the icons. St Luke also painted icons of the First-Ranked Apostles Peter and Paul. St Luke's Gospel was written in the years 62-63 at Rome, under the guidance of the Apostle Paul. In the preliminary verses (1:1-3), St Luke precisely sets forth the purpose of his work. He proposes to record, in chronological order, everything known by Christians about Jesus Christ and His teachings. By doing this, he provided a firmer historical basis for Christian teaching (1:4).

He carefully investigated the facts, and made generous use of the oral tradition of the Church and of what the All-Pure Virgin Mary Herself had told him (2:19, 51). In St Luke's Gospel, the message of the salvation made possible by the Lord Jesus Christ, and the preaching of the Gospel, are of primary importance. St Luke also wrote the Acts of the Holy Apostles at Rome around 62-63 A.D. The Book of Acts, which is a continuation of the four Gospels, speaks about the works and the fruits of the holy Apostles after the Ascension of the Savior.

At the center of the narrative is the Council of the holy Apostles at Jerusalem in the year 51, a Church event of great significance, which resulted in the separation of Christianity from Judaism and its independent dissemination into the world (Acts 15:6-29). The theological focus of the Book of Acts is the coming of the Holy Spirit, Who will guide the Church into all truth John 16:13) until the Second Coming of Christ. The holy relics of St Luke were taken from Constantinople and brought to Padua, Italy at some point in history.

Perhaps this was during the infamous Crusade of 1204. In 1992, Metropolitan Hieronymus (Jerome) of Thebes requested the Roman Catholic bishop in Thebes to obtain a portion of St Luke's relics for the saint's empty sepulcher in the Orthodox cathedral in Thebes. The Roman Catholic bishop Antonio Mattiazzo of Padua, noting that Orthodox pilgrims came to Padua to venerate the relics while many Catholics did not even know that the relics were there, appointed a committee to investigate the relics in Padua, and the skull of St Luke in the Catholic Cathedral of St Vico in Prague.

The skeleton was determined to be that of an elderly man of strong build. In 2001, a tooth found in the coffin was judged to be consistent with the DNA of Syrians living near the area of Antioch dating from 72-416 A.D. The skull in Prague perfectly fit the neck bone of the skeleton. The tooth found in the coffin in Padua was also found to fit the jawbone of the skull.

Bishop Mattiazzo sent a rib from the relics to Metropolitan Hieronymus to be venerated in St Luke's original tomb in the Orthodox cathedral at Thebes.

Almost the best, and great price point...
I love this toy - I give it to my toughest chewer stuffed up with kibble and p-butter that I've frozen an hour or two - and it's cool to play with unfilled too, as it's pliable and soft/bouncy while being also very durable. Starmark is my 3rd of 3 name brands I will buy for my dogs, due to my need for durability for tough chewers thus limiting what toys/brands I can even pick from (West Paw is one I'm now just trying, and Outward Hound is my usual go to over the years), and to be honest, between price and availability, I really want to move Starmark to my number 1 go to but....from what I can tell, the other two companies have great policies about releasing what/where their products are made (of), and I cannot seem to find out whether or not Starmark is also i.e. food-grade and/or whether they have a guarrented return policy or not so....a star off for that until/unless I can assure myself and you, reader, that the quality is just as good as the other two companies. To be fair though, and due to not being able to find any info on material qualities, this IS the one and only toy I have used, but they are also often sold at many local stores and so many of the other treat-toys in this brand have caught my eye, as far as types of toys available and ease to find if/when a replacement (or double to ship to my sister's dog!) is needed. I am thinking that, from what I've seen/felt at local stores for this brand, the durability is likely on par so...again, all going back to the material choice and manufacturing info, for me, that prevents this being a full 5 stars.

Keeps even the most destructive dogs entertained
I was hesitant to make this purchase but after I bought the starmark everlasting chew ball (which I also highly recommend), I gave this one a try. I was surprised how heavy it was, definitely only to be thrown outside as it is made out of solid rubber and could easily go through the tv screen if not careful. My dog is extremely destructive and this not only is very durable, it also keeps him entertained for up to 30 minutes at a time. I have not used the star mark treats specifically designed for it, but regular kibble fits into the grooves just fine. Also, if you put small pieces of chick-fil-a waffle fries, dogs go nuts for it. UPDATE: This toy keeps my rambunctious beagle mix entertained better and longer than any other interactive dog toys I have bought. Of all the toys my dog currently owns, (Starmark Bob-A-lot, Trixie Chess board, Starmark Treat-Dispensing chew ball, and several Kongs) this toy is by far his favorite and keeps him occupied while I get work done around the house, distraction-free. Because of it's made of such dense material, I do have one potential concern: since it's approximately the same size/weight as a full beer bottle) this toy might not be the best fetching choice if your dog is quick and tries to catch balls/frisbees in mid-air since it could bust up his/her head and teeth with it's momentum if he caught it wrong. - But if you don't plan on using this toy for fetching, it is a fantastic purchase for your furry pal.

The toy is fine. My dog outsmarted it.
The toy itself is durable and my dog enjoys it. The problem is that I guess my dog is too smart. The first time I gave it to her, it took her about 25 minutes to empty it. I thought I found a winner. The 2nd time-8 minutes. 3rd time-2 minutes. Oh well.

Amazing, durable toy!
This dog toy is tougher than a Kong, and seems like it's a lot more fun! My miniature dachshunds absolutely love this toy, so much so that I had to get more so that they didn't fight over it. They can lick and play with it for hours and never get discouraged no matter how deep the treat is stuck inside. There are three channels in the toy, at varying widths, so the toy is great for all skill levels. One of our dogs didn't know how to play with toys at all when we adopted him, so we started him out on the larger of the 3, filling it with peanut butter and treats that he would be able to access more easily. Now he picks the toy up and carries it around with him and can get treats out of all channels. He's learning so quickly! Another pup of ours is a fairly aggressive chewer, and since he can't get his teeth into the channels, he isn't able to pry at it like with the black Kong - which he was able to tear after a while. I also think that this rubber gets a lot more slippery than a Kong, so it is harder for teeth to really penetrate, without slipping. Love this toy! Thank you Starmark!

The Pickle Means Business
This toy is a godsend. The price is unbeatable in comparison to Petsmart/1-800Petsupplies and even Chewy. This was one of many christmas gifts for our high chewer Aussie and our Border Collie mix, they opened it early like all dogs do. We lovingly nicknamed this toy 'the pickle' and the dogs know if we tell them to go get their pickle, they bring it to us to fill with treats! The pickle is a perfect toy for if you won't be home for awhile, or if your dog needs to be occupied for an hour or two. We fill it with peanut butter and dog food, then freeze and it makes a perfect long lasting toy. My only single complaint to think about is that this toy picks up fur and dirt like mad. It seems the rubber is just a magnet for gross stuff on your floors. Our solution is to ask the dogs to bring us the pickle whenever we run the dishes, and throw it in the dishwasher!
