After purchasing the Red Sox for $1.2 million in 1932, Yawkey poured millions into building a better team and making the franchise relevant again. Although the Red Sox never won a World Series under Yawkey's ownership, there were still many highlights. Lefty Grove won his three hundredth game; Jimmie Foxx hit fifty home runs; Ted Williams batted .406 in 1941, and both Williams and Carl Yastrzemski won Triple Crowns. Yawkey was viewed by fans as a genial autocrat who ran his ball club like a hobby more than a business and who spoiled his players. He was perhaps too trusting, relying on flawed cronies rather than the most competent executives to run his ballclub. One of his more unfortunate legacies was the accusation that he was a racist, since the Red Sox were the last Major League team to integrate, and his inaction in this regard haunted both him and the team for decades. As one of the last great patriarchal owners in baseball, he was the first person elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame who hadn't been a player, manager, or general manager. Bill Nowlin takes a close look at Yawkey's life as a sportsman and as one of the leading philanthropists in New England and South Carolina. This is Mike Wittmer at his finest
Format: Paperback
If you are at all familiar with Mike Wittmer's books and devotionals, you know he has a sharp wit and an engaging style. This book delivers both in abundance. With clarity and conciseness, Mike walks through 40 well-known theological concepts popular among Americans. Although he writes from an Evangelical perspective, Mike brings his trademark honest critique to each topic, admitting his own biases while still highlighting the validity of other viewpoints. His explanations, critiques, and examples will make you laugh and think, and I truly believe this book would make a great basis for a Sunday school or other church education series.

Fortunate to buy this book
Format: Kindle
Fantastic book, packed with well written information and interspersed with humor. Well worth the price, I will now have to look for more of Wittmer's works, and hope he has more coming in the fashion of this one. This is the 3rd Urban Legends of the bible Ive read in the series and also the best.

The Editorial Company Wolters Kluwer and VitalSource

I was looking forward to my textbook which arrived in great condition. I needed to activate the ebook and it was a disaster. I could not redeem my code for unclear reasons, I called the number in the textbook which took me to an India location, answered by someone who could not enter my e-mail correctly, and ended having to create a ticket. I was told I had to wait 24-48 hours to resolve the issue. I called the Editorial company and they were not able to help stating it was not their issue. It has been very frustrating.
I bought 6 medical books from Elsevier, all of them redeemed as I received them, immediately activated. No hassles at all. Big difference in services between editorial companies and digital resources
