Odin's spear According to the Poetic Edda, the spear was fashioned by the Dwarves; Loki discovers the Spear whilst visiting the Dwarves (on an errand to commission golden hair for Sif). Loki flatters the Dwarves and asks the Spear of them, which they give him.[citation needed] In the Poetic Edda poem Völuspá, the Æsir-Vanir War is described as officially starting when Odin throws a spear over the heads of an assembly of Vanir gods. Whether or not this was specifically Gungnir is, however, unstated. In Sigrdrífumál, the valkyrie Sigrdrífa advises Sigurd on the magical application of runes. She gives Sigurd advice and shares with him lore, including that runes were carved on the tip of Gungnir.

The Valknut symbol is an ancient symbol associated with the god Odin of Norse mythology. The Valknot, or "knot of the slain," often represented the afterlife in old Norse carvings and designs. It is often considered a symbol of Odin, the ruler of all of the Norse gods but also the Norsemen’s god of war and death.

    With a weighted top and storage base, this is sturdy metal with what appear to be standard acupuncture needles. It comes with a set of spare needles in a plastic tube. I find it much easier to use if I keep my dosing funnel on the basket, followed by a quick clearing of the funnel using a weighted espresso distribution tool with the maximum extension before popping off the funnel for my final tamp.     It's not bad, but one minor issue FOR ME

    There is nothing generally not to dislike about this WDT. Priced right. Good quality materials. But there are two issues that made me choose a different one, even before using this one: The entire top and bottom are straight cylindrical pieces. Ergonomically I would have to use more, larger muscle movement from my wrist to stir the beans. Not a big deal for some, but with other similar choices at the same price, I thought I would be better off with a different model. The second issue is that then the needles are placed back in the tall "recepticle", the top piece merely sits on top and isn't secured. For some that might be good because the top can be lifted out without any opposing force. OTOH, if it tips over it might expose the needles or need two hands to get it back together. If I didn't have other choices, I'd keep this one. I knew, without even using it that it wasn't for me... but it might be for someone else. Again, the materials are quite good and you can tell by the heft of the item. I elected to go with a similar concept, but a more contoured design with a knurled top and brushes on the inside of the recepticle to hold the needles and top in place, but also easy to extract for use. My choice over the Tiverain WDT was personal and has nothing to do with the quality of the product.
