There have been references to this phenomenon throughout history with a notable example from the Greek philosopher Aristotle who said, "Often when one is asleep, there is something in consciousness which declares that what then presents itself is but a dreamÓ. The following concerto, Lucid Dreaming, is a quasi-narrative representation of a ÔprotagonistÕ lost in subsequent dreams. Each of the dreams portrays various erogenous visions that the protagonist (solo clarinet) begins to influence. The first dream, Amorous Specter, depicts a ghost-like vision that gradually interacts with the dreamer as if they possess a mystical bond. Noctambulation is defined as sleepwalking, or in the literary sense as Ôa stroll by nightÕ. This static movement illustrates a slow journey through a forest illuminated by the moon. The final movement, Bacchanal, is a socially irreverent portrayal of carnal intoxication and lust.
