NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - "An impressive, bitter, and sweet debut that explores the age-old conflicts between father and son, the beauty and sadness of what happened to Japanese Americans in the Seattle era during World War II, and the depths and longing of deep-heart love."--Lisa SeeSpecial anniversary edition with bonus material including a new short story, "Only Keiko," an interview, and a map of 1940s Seattle In 1986, Henry Lee joins a crowd outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has discovered the belongings of Japanese families who were sent to internment camps during World War II. As the owner displays and unfurls a Japanese parasol, Henry, a Chinese American, remembers a young Japanese American girl from his childhood in the 1940s--Keiko Okabe, with whom he forged a bond of friendship and innocent love that transcended the prejudices of their Old World ancestors. After Keiko and her family were evacuated to the internment camps, she and Henry could only hope that their promise to each other would be kept. Now, forty years later, Henry explores the hotel's basement for the Okabe family's belongings and for a long-lost object whose value he cannot even begin to measure. His search will take him on a journey to revisit the sacrifices he has made for family, for love, for country. Praise for Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet "A tender and satisfying novel set in a time and a place lost forever, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet gives us a glimpse of the damage that is caused by war--not the sweeping damage of the battlefield but the cold, cruel damage to the hearts and humanity of individual people. This is a beautifully written book that will make you think. And, more important, it will make you feel."--Garth Stein, bestselling author of The Art of Racing in the Rain "Mesmerizing and evocative, a tale of conflicted loyalties and timeless devotion."--Sara Gruen, bestselling author of Water for Elephants "A wartime-era Chinese-Japanese variation on Romeo and Juliet . . . The period detail is] so revealing and so well rendered."--The Seattle Times "A poignant story that transports the reader back in time . . . a satisfying and heart-wrenching tale."--Deseret Morning News "A lovely combination of romantic coincidence, historic detail and realism that is smooth and highly readable . . . Ford does wonderful work in re-creating prewar Seattle."--The Oregonian

Enjoyed by puppy
Excellent puppy teether. Stands up to games of tug-o-war, satisfies the need for chewing on the "bone" and she likes it when it's been cooled. I wet the fabric part before popping it in the fridge. So far, it's held up well to her sharp puppy teeth. Definitely a repeat purchase item.

Puppy is obsessed, so are my adult dogs!
These were a life saver while my puppy was teething. He absolutely LOVED these and somehow the little cloth attached to it held up extremely well. I'm not sure if it was the textures or the flavor/scent but this was by far his favorite toy. He's 6 months now and will always run to this. Our adult dogs have accidentally gotten ahold of these a few times and it holds up well to them too (thankfully).
Super soft and great to also throw in the freezer to soothe their teeth while teething. This is a great value and if it's something that keeps the pup occupied, I'm all for it!

Probably best for medium to large dogs
I got these for my teething Japanese Chin pups & they can’t really chew the blue part because it’s too large for small dogs. I usually just barely wet the rag & wrap treats up inside, tucking it inside itself before freezing to make something more enriching for them. They like it overall.

Great puppy teething toy!
My bernedoodle loved this toy. Long after all her teeth had fallen out, she still plays with it! It was great to be able to freeze it and let her gnaw on something that would help her feel a little better too! We both agree that this was extremely helpful and fun!

Golden Retriever puppy did not care for it but other breeds very well might
These seem to be very well made but our Goiden Retriever puppy was only interested in it for less than one minute. Before you buy i would scan the great reviews to see what breeds these really appeal to. I am sure there are some!!
