I was working with a Senior Lecturer at the local university who does 'stellar photography' and wanted unique ways of displaying his images of starlight from the Milky Way. The light from there is at least 5000 years old, so he obtained the ancient bog oak, which comes from the ancient bogs in Norfolk and is, again at least 5000 years old, and assured as so from the saw mill. We worked together on presentation medium for his work. The offcuts have been turned into a pen and  cufflinks.

I turn wood in much the way a sculptor works with stone or marble, I let the wood tell me what it wants to be made into. The name of Rare Woods came about from the use of recovered timber, rather than exotic timber ... Knowing the provenance of the timber I turn, that is the rare part.

This gift is beautifully presented in a box and is accompanied by a card and envelope, with a hand tied ribbon and bow added to finish.
