Starting with the following year's Under Wires And Searchlights, they've created an explorative body of instrumental work that's shifted between electronica, dub, minimalism, avant-jazz and ambient music. Along the way they've collaborated with the likes of Jah Wobble, remixed Max Richter and Vök and provided soundtracks for art installations and other visual media. They've also had their own music remixed by Biosphere and Japan's Steve Jansen, among others. The new album offers ample evidence of a band in it's prime. Marconi Union still sound vital and original, enthused by the possibilities that music has to offer. "We've never wanted to repeat ourselves," states Talbot. "We've made ten albums and have been going for 17 years, but it still feels fresh. That's been so important for us all the way through. We're looking to do new things all the time" co-founder Richard Talbot says.Indeed, the exquisite Dead Air bears only a passing resemblance to it's 2016 forerunner, Ghost Stations. The trio have dispensed with beats, brass and guest musicians this time around, opting instead for a more intimate and textural approach, a constantly evolving soundworld of tones and sensory impressions.Dead Air also bears little resemblance to the trio's initial vision for it. "The album we set out to make had far more of a rhythmic element," explains Talbot, "but fairly late in the process, we decided to completely change direction." This is entirely in keeping with Marconi Union's guiding methodology. Ideas remain fluid throughout the writing process, until Talbot and bandmates Jamie Crossley and Duncan Meadows ultimately settle on what feels right to them.As such, Dead Air is a sublime testament to their collective instinct.Marconi Union's most successful album to date is Weightless (Ambient Trans-missions Vol. 2). 'Weightless is widely considered to be 'the most relaxing track in the world'"Marconi Union are amongst today's most talented musicians" - Sunday Times"Marconi Union have steadily released albums of pristine, clinical electronic music... continuing to refine their art in minimalist fashion and placing them firmly in the vanguard of acts making atmospheric, ambient music" - Music OMH"Marconi Union have always excelled at the creation of a sonic space in whichto shelter" - The Quietus"Marconi Union always find beauty in the bleakest places" - Uncut1. Find Out Who Was the Legal Secretary
Format: Hardcover
I ordered this book after watching Nuremberg with Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe because I wanted to find out who was the woman accompanying Justice Jackson to Germany. Yes, that was not his wife, it was his legal secretary, Elsie Douglas. This book is the only source I could find that goes into any detail about their relationship. What it provides is nowhere near salacious, because it is evident that Jackson took his secrets to the grave. What details it does provide about the evident love triangle that existed in Jackson's life for many years is quite sufficient to explain the events of Nuremberg.

Well written. Factual sloppiness.
Format: Hardcover
Good insight into Jackson’s approach to the law. Thoroughly researched. Well written. However, Professor White made two egregious factual errors, both of which are an indication of sloppiness on his part, as well as that of his editors and peer reviewers. First, he refers to the World War 2 Chief of Naval Operations as the Secretary of the Navy. Second he states that Los Alamos National Laboratory is in California.

Judging Jackson
Format: Hardcover
Readers interested in FDR's era, the post-war Nuremberg Trial, and/or such important U.S. Supreme Court events as the Rosenberg spy case and Brown v. Board of Education will enjoy this well-researched book. Illuminating insights as to the characters of his fellow members of the High Court, especially Justices Black and Douglas, are also present.
Of special interest in today's world is Justice Jackson's thinking on the limits of Executive Power in terms of war powers and foreign relations.
I do think non-lawyers will be less interested when the author, a legal scholar, sometime goes into depth exploring aspects of Justice Jackson's thoughts on opaque technical areas, such as diversity jurisdiction under the constitution.
And, I fail to see the need to spend much time on Justice Black's two children, as is done in chapter two "Family Matters." Why do I need to know that his daughter was a mediocre student in college or details about her early love life?
Professor White clearly admires Robert H. Jackson as a fine advocate, brilliant writer, and independent judge, while noting some of his flaws. All in all, a good biography of an important American.

This is a good book to remind us of the futility of war and the tragedies that occur because of it.
