Hoya kerrii, commonly known as the Sweetheart Plant, is a charming trailing houseplant loved for its thick, heart-shaped leaves and easy-going nature. Native to Southeast Asia, this slow-growing Hoya can eventually develop long climbing vines and clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers when mature. Unlike the single-leaf "Valentine" plants often sold as novelty gifts, this is a multi-node plant, meaning it has active growth points and the potential to continue growing into a beautiful trailing or climbing specimen over time. Its succulent-like foliage makes it forgiving of occasional missed waterings, making it a wonderful choice for both beginners and collectors.

Plant Care

Light
Bright indirect light is best. A little gentle morning sun can help maintain strong variegation.

Watering
Allow the potting mix to dry out almost completely between waterings. The thick leaf stores water, making it tolerant of occasional neglect.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–30°C and should be protected from cold draughts and frost.

Potting
Plant in a free-draining mix. At Plant Studio, The Airy Aroid works well.

Hot Tips
Provide a trellis or moss pole if you'd like your Hoya to climb, or allow it to trail naturally from a shelf or hanging planter. Hoyas generally flower more readily when slightly root-bound, so resist the urge to pot up too frequently. With patience and the right conditions, mature plants may produce clusters of waxy, sweetly scented flowers.

Pet Friendly
Yes. Hoya kerrii is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Gorgeous book
Format: Board book
This is one of our favorite books. The illustrations are stunning. It's a total work of art! And the story about changing seasons is lovely. I like that it's a quick read but that there's more than a word or two per page. My 13-month old really loves this book, and because I love it so much too, I always encourage her to bring it over for a read!

beautiful illustrations
Format: Board book
The story is nice, but the real magic is in the illustrations. As a parent, I adore reading this book just for the illustrations; each page is a work of art. Most of the story is about winter, so we are reading it a great deal now (December) to discuss wildlife and how they prepare for winter.

Another classic by Il Sung Na
Format: Board book
Il Sung Na is one of my favorite children's book authors/illustrators. The illustrations are whimsical and fun, the text is simple and colorful. This book is very similar in concept to his Book of Sleep as it chronicles a rabbit looking on as various animals respond to the changing seasons. My daughter loves this book, as well as the Book of Sleep and Opposite Zoo.

Great Book!
Format: Kindle
This book is awesome! I used it as a part of my reading lesson plan for preschool-age children. While I did not teach the lesson, my professor was impressed with the quality of resources I utilized in my lesson planning assignments, which includes this book! I enjoyed the colors, simple words, and finding the rabbit throughout the pages of this book!
