Pyrus communis x pyrifolia 'LeConte' ~ LeConte PearLeConte Pear is a vigorous upright deciduous tree primarily grown for its crop of large late summer fruit. An attractive display of fragrant of white flowers bloom in mid spring. The large soft and sweet creamy yellow fruits have a refreshing flavor with floral hints. Grows best in full sun and rich, moist well drained soils. LeConte needs cross pollinating to yield, but is fire blight resistant, and has a low chill requirement of 200 300 hours. Type:

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: High Maintenance. Needs regular watering. Pears are particularly prone to fire blight, especially after wet and warm springs. Other issues include canker, powdery mildew, scab, and anthracnose. Possible pests include pear psylla, coddling moth and borers. Fallen fruit can be messy if not harvested.
