The Royal Pavilion, Brighton, is one of the most famous and opulent royal extravaganzas in existence. This book reproduces all the important surviving designs, used and unused, for the exterior and interior of the Pavilion. It reveals the great variety of brilliant exotic schemes devised for its construction and decoration.

It was first built in 1787 for the Prince of Wales as a neo-classical marine villa, and by the time the Prince became king in 1820 it had grown into the extraordinary Indian/Chinese Fantasy it is today.

The projects for the exterior include the pretty but chaste designs of Henry Holland and the wilder Indian and Chinese fantasies of William Porden and Humphry Repton. The interior designs, executed mainly by the Crace firm of decorators and Robert Jones (all firmly controlled by the king) are always splendid and often astonishing; they include schemes for whole rooms as well as for individual details such as windows, skylights, doorways, carpets and curtains. The range includes the 'barbaric' chinoiserie of the 1802-04 period, the enchanting 'rococo' chinoiserie of 1815-17, and the opulent richness of the final scheme. The techniques used include illusionistic painting, marbling, faux graining, faux skies - often in a vein of high fantasy.

The 308 illustrations, of which 111 are reproduced in colour, capture all the variety, magnificence and exotic luxury of the extraordinary building.

Utility at its best
Snaps closed fast! I do like this thing though because the shelf is very stable and breathes well. HOWEVER it snaps shut very fast and very securely. The hooks were a little strange to install but once you get it set up it holds up well. I like the fact it collapses and hides away. Really great for a laundry room or a place you need a temporary shelf. Excellent and heavy weight material

great tuck-in shelf, though screws should be higher vs lower for stability
I'm really glad I got this little sweater drying rack. I love that it folds up against the wall to hardly take up any space at all. You do have to open and close it carefully b/c it can snap back very quickly and could pinch fingers or catch something else if there was anything hanging near it. The only other thing I don't love about it is that the screws are on the lower end of the frame so it is top-heavy and hangs forward. I screwed the screws in all the way to the drywall studs which we hammered flat against the wall and this still leans forward. It doesn't lean enough that something would slide off or anything but it doesn't look good when hanging out and forward. I definitely wouldn't use it as a display or storage shelf as it is pictured in one of the pictures in the listing. Even with that frustration though, I only took off one star as I'm overall very happy with the whole idea of this and it does work well and serve its purpose. I'm glad I got it.

I like this little collapsible drying shelf for my laundry room. It is compact and a great space saving shelf. I am always hunting for spaces to flat dry clothes where they wont be accessed by my toddlers or cat or dogs and this is a great solution for one off items that need flat drying. Purpose: For home and office use specifically: this is not meant to be a portable stand. It is sturdy and makes a great addition to any workspace. It really works well for those who would like to use it with dedicated assossories such as a mouse and keyboard. I researched for days and I’m happy I bought this because the quality is A+. It does not feel cheap and once it arrives, you’ll understand why it is so popular. I work at home and also as a university student I have struggled with neck pain from always looking down. This keeps the screen elevated so that it’s at eye level. It allows me to easily use a keyboard and mouse without having to readjust the screen. After searching for days and going through multiple stands, I believe this is the best quality stand for the price. I am glad I went with this specific model, the lines are clean, it’s aesthetically pleasing and functional. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to use their computer as a monitor with a separate mouse and keyboard. Cons: It’s not meant to be portable, and although that would be a good option for anyone wanting to take it to the library and travel; this item is heavy and sturdy. It would not travel well. Also as mentioned, the stand elevates the computer at a height where you would need a separate mouse and keyboard. It would not be functional to use your laptop to type or the trackpad while on this stand. Overall I am glad I bought this item first before another. It is a high quality assessory that I believe will get good use and last for years. Definitely would recommend.
