The most common failure of the vortex flaps in Z19DTH engines is damage, unsealing the flap, or damage to the vortex flap control rod at the point where the flap connects to the flap. The plastic which is the flap connector with the control rod is made or broken. Symptoms of this failure are separation of the tendon from the flaps. As a consequence, it may result in increased fuel consumption, smoke, power drop which is strongly felt especially in the lower range until the turbocharger is turned on.
General assembly rules
The repair kit consists of swirl flap caps made of high-quality aluminum, together with BONDLOC sealant necessary for proper installation.
The assembly consists in removing the swirl flaps together with the flap control rod. We only leave the cable drive. Then iron into the resulting holes end caps smeared with the included sealant. As a result, we get a very strong seal, larger than required.
