Lysine also relieves symptoms of cold sores including itching, burning and pain. Also contains vitamin C and zinc to promote the healing of lesions. Lysine has been found to be active against the herpes virus in vitro, as it is able inhibit the metabolism of arginine an amino acid required by the virus for replication.
Blackmores Lyp-Sine contains the amino acid lysine, which reduces the number of cold sore outbreaks as well as their healing time. Lysine also relieves symptoms of cold sores including itching, burning and pain. Also contains vitamin C and zinc to promote the healing of lesions.
Lysine has been found to be active against the herpes virus in vitro, as it is able inhibit the metabolism of arginine - an amino acid required by the virus for replication.
Clinical studies have shown that zinc supplementation leads to a reduction in the frequency, severity and duration of herpes outbreaks, and it is believed that this is due to the role that zinc plays in enhancing cell mediated immunity. Vitamin C is essential in the formation of collagen (for connective tissue in the skin), and along with zinc plays an important role in the healing of wounds and the synthesis of collagen.
Active ingredients:
Lysine hydrochloride 500 mg
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) 250 mg
Zinc amino acid chelate (zinc 10 mg) 50 mg
Directions:
Adults – Dose for risk reduction: 2 tablets per day with meals. Or as professionally prescribed.
Dose for management of outbreak - 2 tablets, 2 times per day with meals. Or as professionally prescribed.
Children (from 6 years to 12 years) – Take 1 tablet per day, or as professionally prescribed.
Children (under 6 years) – As professionally prescribed.
Contraindications and cautions:
- Contains zinc, which may be dangerous if taken in large amounts or for a long period of time.
- Consult your healthcare professional before use if you have had renal calculi (kidney stones). Ascorbic acid may increase the risk of recurrence of calcium oxalate calculi.
