Don't let the sadness and down-on-their-luck characters on Pedigo's Magic Pilsner fool you. The release from Dallas singer/songwriter John Pedigo, one half of folk-rock duo The O's, also radiates plenty of hope, joy and exuberant defiance in the face of loss. Pedigo's father was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, and Pedigo set out to make and record some songs that would, in their own way, honor and entertain his dad. Pedigo's destiny was making music. He got his first guitar in 5th grade, got ahold of cassettes of Guns N' Roses and Metallica and went from there, listening to hard rock and then getting turned on to The Smiths and college rock of the era. Hearing the Pixies' Bossa Nova album reoriented Pedigo's songwriting efforts. With Pedigo's Magic Pilsner - which is named after an infamously bad batch of homebrew that his dad concocted in the kitchen sink one year - the scope is a little wider. For Pedigo, this album was a way to explore what-does-it-all-mean questions, to process the confounding feeling of a deep loss and a constitutional sense of optimism about life and the possibilities that come our way.

ESSENTIAL for all parents and educators to read

As an elementary educator for the last fifteen years, I finally found a book that put all the frustration and wondering of why kids come to school struggling, drained, and overwhelmed. Borba states, "We are creating strivers, not thinkers, produced to be test-takers while missing the opportunity to be people."
She points out that we are all running on empty. In her book, she discusses the 7 core strengths that kids need in order to shine. Thrivers not only provides readers with current research, but it has practical and easy tips that both parents and educators can do to help foster a new generation of thrivers and not strivers.
If you are worried about your children's mental health, depression, anxiety, and stress, you must read this book. This book comes at a time when we all must work together to move the pendulum of what achievement looks like in 2021 and reimagine education for our youth, tweens, teens, and young adults.
Truly, this book has been life-changing.

A highly readable mix of practical strategies, engaging anecdotes and research-based insights, Thrivers underscores the importance of our kids' innate character strengths for their success and happiness. I found this book perfectly timed, given all the pandemic-related stress our teens have had on top of everything else! Helpful pinpointing which traits to focus on
Format: Hardcover
I loved the format of the book, how are you take a diagnostic test and then read the sections that pertain to the character traits that you want to strengthen in your child. But when I read the chapters, I was disappointed. I was hoping for new information. If I had never read a book on how to support my child’s development and education, I would have been delighted.
