Species Summary

The head and body of male Pseudomugil ivantsoffi is semitransparent, often with a bluish or reddish hue. Iris of eye intensely blue. The opercle, abdomen and swim bladder region are silvery. The upper half of first dorsal and anterior half of second dorsal fins, and edge of anal fin are bright red. The dorsal and ventral contour posterior to second dorsal and anal fins edged with similar red; the upper and lower third of caudal fin also red. The pelvic fins are pinkish. The edges of some scales on abdomen with narrow black margins. Females overall semitransparent, lacking bright red shades of male; opercle, abdomen and swim bladder region silvery; some scales on anterior half of body with faint, fine black margins; fins mainly translucent to faintly yellowish, the outer tips of the first and second dorsal fins yellow. This is a small species, slender and laterally compressed, growing to a length of around 3-4 cm SL. Named "ivantsoffi" in honour of Walter Ivantsoff, of Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, in recognition of his valuable contributions to the knowledge of atherinoid taxonomy.

This fish was initially identified as Pseudomugil reticulatus, based on the close resemblance of females from the Timika area to the single known example of that species collected about two kilometres east of Ayamaru (Ajamaru) Lake in the centre of the Vogelkop Peninsula. However, recent collections near the type locality of Pseudomugil reticulatus, which lies some 900 km northwest of Timika, revealed that the two populations are distinctive.

Distribution & Habitat
Pseudomugil ivantsoffi have been found in the tributaries of the Ajkwa, Iwaka, Wataikwa and Kopi Rivers in the Timika-Tembagapura region of West Papua. When first collected in 1995 this species was common in several creeks. The habitat consisted of small (1-2 m wide), shallow, slow-flowing streams in dense rainforest. The water was generally clear, but some were tannin-stained, with sparse aquatic vegetation. Bottom conditions included sand, gravel, cobble, and rocks. Water temperature and pH values ranged from 24-28°C and pH 6.7-7.8 respectively. Other fishes collected from these habitats include Pseudomugil pellucidus, Pseudomugil novaeguineae, Melanotaenia goldiei, Melanotaenia rubrostriata, and Melanotaenia ogilbyi.

The same species and habitat conditions were encountered in January 1997, but by the following year, after a prolonged El Niño related drought, the two species of Pseudomugil, as well as Melanotaenia ogilbyi, could not be found in any of the former areas. The Kuala Kencana housing development and recent forest destruction near the Kopi River sites may well have caused the local extinction of these species. However, they no doubt will continue to survive in primary forest to the immediate east and west of the Timika region.

The Timika region includes the following rivers: Kamora River (Kamora, Tuaba, Wataikwa, Iwaka) Wania River, Tipuka River, Ajkwa River, Minajerwi River (Minajerwi, Kopi, Aimua) Mawati River, Otokwa River, Mamoa River (Mamoa, Seruka) Atuka River (Atuka, Wapuka) [The Atuka River meanders north to its junction with the Kamora River, very close to the village of Mioko.]

The dark colouration in 'blackwater' streams is due to the presence of organic substances. This black or tea colouration is quite common in the area, due to extensive heath forest. These streams start in the heath and are shorter and narrower than the rivers which begin in the mountains and have enough volume from rainfall to dissolve the colouration. The blackwater streams all drain into the rivers.

soft breathable shirt
Color: Navycircles, Size: Large, Color: Navycircles, Size: Large
I measure a 33w and 42c. That would indicate that I should be closer to a size medium. But I have received enough summer short sleeve shirts that have a sizing chart that says that I should be a size medium only to find that they would only look good on me if I were built like Adonis. So I ordered a size large. It fits pretty well. I still think it is a little more snug than I would want but that is just my vanity wishing I had a flat gut. It is a bit difficult to read the washing instructions that are printed in silver on the inner collar. The label says it is 87% nylon and 13% spandex. The craftsmanship of the shirt is excellent. The collar has a nice cloth roll covering the seam so there is no chafing on the neck. The inner seams on the sides are double shitched with an interesting taper at the bottom that would only be noticeable if the shirt is not tucked in. The length of the shirt is sufficient that it will not try to pull out on the back and it is stretchy enough that I think if I tuck it in my underwear it will not pull out when riding my bike. I like the pattern. It is like the little dots on a bird feather repeated over and over.

I wonderfully versatile athletically fitting summer polo
Color: Lightbluedot, Size: Small
Don't really have any down sides on this polo. It's lightweight yet surprisingly wind resistant, even on cooler days im not losing all my body heat at the slightest breeze. It feels more like a cotton blend while performing like a polyester with the stretch and drying performance. The fit is very athletic, with just enough room in the chest and shoulders while hugging close to the midsection. This polo is quality both in looks, with the collar holding shape and appearance, the faux chest pocket ups the look of the shirt without being a clunky piece with a pocket that bunches up. Im thrilled with this polo and am buying more colors to have variety with this shirt. Wonderful wonderful value for the money if you're looking for a versatile close fitting shirt without hindering mobility

Great shirt with a couple of very insignificant flaws
Color: Bluedotwhite, Size: Small, Color: Bluedotwhite, Size: Small
Stylish, breathable, great fit, vibrant color, nice attention to detail with the colorway. Check out my photos for a look at the way the pocket colors and fabrics match that of the collar button, and the tiny perforations in the main fabric that allow you to stay cool in this shirt. There are a couple of spots where you can see flaws, but they're not significant enough to me to deduct a star. The flaws are the thread sticking out of the button, and how the collar has a bit of an indentation in it and isn't totally level smooth. It's hard to figure out how to iron the collar without creasing it in a bad location, so this is the way it looks after ironing with my best effort. All in all, as I've found with the Alex Vando brand, I enjoy their polo/golf shirts a lot - the fit, look, pretty much everything.

Comfortable summer wear. Runs a little big and long
Color: Blueoval, Size: Small, Color: Blueoval, Size: Small
This is a very comfortable polo. I can tell from the features that the shirt is pretty much designed for golf. - Very light weight like tees for runners. It is see through if not for the printed pattern. - Definitely breathable, perfect for dry weather region. Will keep you dry throughout the round and does not cling onto the body to inhibit motion. Structure stays crisp throughout the round. - Stretchable, does not restrict motion during golf, sweat or not. - Longer length to stay tuck in. Note: - It runs big overall. The model shown is 6’1” and he is wearing a Medium. Seeing that, I bought a Small even though I normally wear medium. It fits my upper body perfectly with a little room to spare. - It also runs a little long. It will definitely stay tucked in throughout the round. However, it is too long for me to wear it untucked. I am 5’ 8”. Overall I like the shirt’s quality and a reasonable price for a golf shirt. It would have been perfect had it not been a little long for untuck wear.

Stylish, Comfortable, and Very Versatile Shirt
Color: Navygeometry, Size: Medium, Color: Navygeometry, Size: Medium
This is a very nice‑looking shirt and it fits perfectly for my size. The design really stands out, and the blue color with the white accents looks sharp and clean without being too bold. The collar and buttons are good quality and add a nice, finished touch to the shirt. It feels well made and holds its shape nicely when worn. Comfort is another big plus—it’s comfortable enough to wear without an undershirt, which is great for warmer days. What I really like is how versatile it is. You can easily dress it up for business casual with a sport coat, wear it with khakis or jeans, as well as for golfing. It works well in a lot of different settings without looking out of place. It comes in at a good price point for the quality, and it would make a nice gift as well. Overall, a great‑looking, comfortable shirt that offers excellent value and flexibility.
