He crossed Newfoundlands (usually the Landseer) and long-coated Saint Bernards for a few generations, then added a Great Pyrenees and Saint Bernard cross. Or so the story goes. I'm quite sure an old-school Maury Povitch DNA Daddy test would find other dog breeds, but whatever the combo the Leonberger is a stunning dog and one of my personal faves. (Aside, yes, I showed my age with that Maury Povitch reference).
