The stems are typically covered in sharp spines, giving the plant a rugged, thorny appearance. In spring, the Mexican Tree Ocotillo bursts into vibrant, tubular red or orange flowers, which bloom along the tips of its branches, attracting pollinators like hummingbirds. The plant is drought-tolerant and thrives in hot, arid conditions, often growing in rocky or sandy soils. During dry periods, the plant may shed its leaves, conserving water, and will sprout new foliage quickly after rainfall. This hardy and eye-catching plant is commonly used in xeriscaping and as an ornamental feature in desert gardens. Can gain and lose its leaves multiple times per year.
