It came, chronologically, after the famous 78 rpm recording made by HMV and dominated by the tenor figure of Tito Schipa, and featured an all-Italian vocal cast, evenly distributed among the greatest interpreters of the mid-twentieth-century Italian comic repertoire. Even today, it remains a miracle of acting, precise accent, fluid singing, and irresistible theatricality, absolutely superior to almost all the recordings made in the following years.
