It can be as focused as praying for a loved one to be healed, or it can be as general as praying for far-flung countries and situations around the globe. But whatever it may be for us, and however much or little we may have learned of its power to change situations, what God desires is that our life in Christ becomes rooted in prayer and intimacy with him, in such a way that everything we do is permeated and influenced by it.

These chapters have been written out of a conviction of heart which recognises that prayer really is the most important work that any of us can ever be engaged in, and furthermore that the Lord is calling his church at this present time to return to prayer as never before. We are living in times when Christian teaching and values are increasingly and overtly being side-lined, if they are not directly under assault, and when the spiritual life of believers is all too often weak and easily distracted. In order to continue standing firmly and boldly in Christ, and to see breakthrough, effectiveness and fruitfulness in the work and ministry we do for him, we must return to a place where prayer is the central empowering factor in everything we do. GodÕs ways throughout history have always been the ways of prayer.
