I feel like it has been such an emotional election cycle and it unfortunately has revealed a lot of hate. I don't remember an election year where people so openly talked about hating groups of people and it really hurts my heart. At first I had "cluck racism" in my image but more accurately, hate is what I want to speak out against. All hate and negativity towards our fellow humans over things like race, religion, sexuality and so on. So, the decision was made to pair "cluck hate" with my image. The chickens are part of my normal theme in my work and it just happened to be how my emotion sketched out. I just hope that it will be a positive reminder for people to be kind to one another, regardless of their differences.

This election cycle has shown us, perhaps more than anything else, that substance follows rhetoric. It can be difficult to trust the democratic representation of the people when those we elect spend so much time raising money from special interests, or can be swayed by lobbyists.  Divisiveness has come to define the U.S. political system.
