Lansbury (1925-2022) made an auspicious debut in the 1944 suspense classic Gaslight, and had a long and brilliant career with roles in the horror classic The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), The Dark at the Top of the Stairs (1960), the stunning and revealing political thriller The Manchurian Candidate (1962), Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), and the late-seventies Broadway smash Sweeney Todd, among other stage and screen triumphs.
