В публикации материалов из раскопок городища Зартепа, расположенного в Южном Узбекистане, рассматриваются факторы, влиявшие на развитие культуры Бактрии-Тохаристана на протяжении короткого временного промежутка со второй половины III до конца IV века нашей эры. В это время происходит ряд политических событий, перекроивших границы Сасанидской и Кушанской империй. Экспансия расширявших свои владения Сасанидов на Восток привела к образованию нового объединения - Кушаншахра, обладавшего правами автономии, на территории которой товарно-денежные отношения производились с помощью кушано-сасанидских монетных эмиссий. В культуре Кушаншахра прослеживается постепенная адаптация сасанидских культурных импульсов при сохранении некоторых черт, восходящих к кушанским культурным стереотипам. Образование Кушаншахра являет собой один из примеров сосуществования разных народов и религиозно-этических течений в рамках автономии.

The publication of materials from the excavations of the Zartepa, located in Southern Uzbekistan, discusses the factors that influenced the development of a culture of Bactria-Tokharistan for a short time period since the second half of the 3rd century AD the end of 4th century AD. At this time there is a series of political events, redraw the boundaries of the Sasanian and Kushan empires. Expansion to increase their ownership Sassanid to the East led to the formation of the new association - Kushanshahr owner of the rights of autonomy, in which commodity-money relations were made with Kushano-Sassanian coin issues. In a culture Kushanshahr traced the gradual adaptation of Sasanian cultural impulses while preserving some features dating back to the Kushan cultural stereotypes.
