Gretzky’s youth and dominance seemed to be rejuvenated in his first season with the Rangers (1996-1997) as he led the team with 97 points and even provided the MSG with a throwback type highlight in the first round of the playoffs with his three goal, natural hat trick performance that took place in the span of less than 7 minutes on ice during Game 4 against the Florida Panthers. With this momentum shifting display of sheer will and dominance, Gretzky bolstered the Rangers to a series upset and eventual Eastern Conference Finals run where they were later defeated by the Philadelphia Flyers.
