David Oscarson's Winter Fountain Pen in Light Blue captures the quiet clarity of a frozen landscape, rendered through the house's signature union of precious metal, engine-turned pattern, and luminous vitreous enamel. The gently translucent enamel drifts over crisp guilloche, creating a sense of depth and movement that shifts with the light, much like sun across new snow. It is a contemplative design, restrained yet intricate, made for collectors who value time-honored techniques executed to a modern standard.

Craftsmanship & Design

Every David Oscarson pen begins with a solid sterling silver foundation, including the cap, barrel, and appointments. The surface is first engine-turned by hand to create a precise guilloche pattern. Multiple layers of hot vitreous enamel are then applied and kiln-fired, each firing bonding the enamel to the silver and intensifying the color. The pale blue tone chosen for this Winter edition remains subtly translucent, allowing the engraved geometry beneath to glow with a glasslike depth that enamel alone cannot achieve.

The Winter motif explores seasonal minimalism: clean lines, crystalline textures, and cool-toned enamel that reads as ice over chiseled terrain. Edges are crisp, transitions are seamless, and the final hand polish reveals a mirror-smooth surface that is both visually rich and reassuring in the hand. Because the enamel is fired and polished over precious metal, it is not a surface print or lacquer; it is integral to the pen and made to endure.

Writing Experience

The Winter Fountain Pen is fitted with an 18k gold nib, tuned for smoothness and dependable flow. Offered in fine, medium, or broad, it rewards a relaxed hand with a consistent line and quiet feedback over a range of paper types. The precious-metal construction imparts a balanced, confident weight without feeling cumbersome, and the section geometry encourages a natural grip over longer sessions.

A cartridge-converter filling system provides practical flexibility. Use international cartridges for convenience or the included converter to explore bottled inks that complement the pen's glacial palette. Threading is precise, capping is secure, and the pen settles into the hand with the kind of stability that invites unhurried writing.

Provenance

Since its earliest editions, David Oscarson has focused on bringing classical guilloche and hot enamel to contemporary writing instruments. Each collection is produced in limited numbers and individually numbered, reflecting a small-batch ethos that prioritizes fidelity to craft over volume. The Winter series exemplifies that approach: traditional techniques, precious materials, and a design language that finds elegance in restraint. For collectors who prize the rarity of true vitreous enamel over engine-turned sterling silver, this edition embodies what makes the brand singular.

Breathtaking
Format: Kindle
A fantastic coming of age story about a young woman finding love for the first time while spending the summer before college with her grandmother. She also manages to reconnect with her artistic side as she spends time with her grandmother, who is a fairly well known artist. Though it is subtle, I felt that the interplay between the scientists heading off to MIT to study planetary science and the artist trying to figure out whether the abstract painting she was working on was still "speaking to her" or just something she messed up is the tension that drives a good portion of Aria's story.

Very Important Message for All of Us
Format: Hardcover
Absolutely delightful, oftentimes comical look at what is a very serious situation, collection of memorable metaphors of a memoir. A real page turner. I highly recommend it. There is a subtle recognition of a spiritual nature that we are all born with. Only some of us have the courage to live out the compelling spiritual direction that we come into the world with. Thank you Kyle.

Parents beware!
Format: Hardcover
This books is about a trans child running away from home and it basically teaches children how to do it. Nearly a step by step example. Then at the end of the book the author offers “resources” and advice. The first advice the author gives is “this book itself is the advice” (meaning: run away from home) and then the author lists ways a child can get around their parents. Even telling children that if they have parental control features on their phones preventing them from looking up stuff (assuming “resources” to run away) that they can go to the library, even suggesting they ride their bike to the library so their parents don’t know, to look up “resources” at the library. My daughter was somewhat disturbed by this book. She said: “I feel like it’s trying to brainwash me into hating you! I had to remind myself of who I am like every chapter. I’m afraid for kids who don’t know better.” Parents beware!
