The evolution of the 488 Challenge unveiled in 2016, the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo was unveiled during the Finali Mondiali at Mugello in October 2019. Equipped with the new 2020 Evo kit derived from Ferrari’s track experience and feedback from the Challenge, GT3 and GTE competition series, the car’s overall performance, its consistency in race conditions and its handling are all enhanced, giving better feedback and even more driving pleasure.

Ferrari implemented many critical changes to deliver better performance through the latest evolution of the infamous 488 series, increasing downforce and introducing new, integrated Pirelli tyres to maximise grip, the latter of which required seven months of laboratory development and track testing. The Challenge Evo retains its 3.9 litre 670 hp V8 turbocharged engine, delivering the torque and power you expect from this exceptional racing car.

Intense collaboration between Ferrari’s technical department and their Style Centre resulted in a comprehensive redesign of the front of the car, boosting aerodynamic efficiency by 30% over the 488 Challenge. Most prominently, the inclusion of a third, centred, U-shaped intake feeds the front brakes and contributes to the unique sporty identity of the car. These comprehensive improvements, ensure the Challenge Evo has 50% more downforce than its predecessor, improving cornering with quicker entry and reduced understeer on exit. This provides an unparalleled driving experience, which was perfected after an intensive initial development phase using a sophisticated simulator. The 488 Challenge Evo introduces a first for the Challenge series, with teams now able to alter the level of downforce on the front axle independently of the rear axle. This change alone contributed more than 20% of the aerodynamic efficiency.

The racing spirit was embedded in the car’s interior starting with the steering wheel based on the experience Ferrari gained from the FXX-K Evo and the 488 GTE winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The most noticeable improvement was in the ergonomics, with the gear lever integration allowing drivers to keep their hands in the optimum position for considerable advantages for visibility and system control.

This fine model of the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo is an exact 1:8 scale replica of the car as it debuted during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali at the Mugello Circuit in October 2019. It has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops using CAD directly from Ferrari’s design office, allowing us to perfectly recreate every detail at scale. The prototype model has undergone detailed scrutiny by Ferrari’s engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.

The Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo is limited to just 199 pieces.
