Однак у цієї процедури є і побічні ефекти, принаймні з точки зору Халя. Людство не схильне до ризику, зокрема, космічні польоти розглядаються як невиправданий авантюризм. Він та інші космонавти стають для суспільства чужими і навіть небезпечними, оскільки не були бетризовані.
