The David Oscarson Carl Linnaeus fountain pen in white pays graceful tribute to the father of modern taxonomy with a composition that balances scientific order and sculptural beauty. Its luminous enamel surface and sterling silver foundation speak to an old-world craft vocabulary rarely pursued at this level today. Presented as a limited edition, it is an object that rewards close study as much as it invites daily use.

Craftsmanship & Design

At the heart of the Carl Linnaeus design is a solid sterling silver body, engine-turned to create precise guilloche patterns that catch and refract light beneath layers of vitreous enamel. This traditional hot enamel process requires multiple kiln firings and careful hand finishing to achieve a glass-smooth surface and crisp edges. The pristine white palette heightens the interplay between polished silver details and the deep optical clarity of enamel, yielding a restrained, timeless presence on the desk or in the hand.

David Oscarson is known for treating each collection as a narrative in metal and glass. Here, the theme nods to Linnaeus and the enduring language of classification, distilled into a clean, ordered aesthetic. Sterling silver appointments and carefully defined forms reinforce the pen’s sense of structure while allowing the enamel to remain the visual lead. The result is elegant without excess, contemporary in silhouette yet rooted in classical technique.

Writing Experience

The Carl Linnaeus is fitted with an 18k gold nib, offering the quiet assurance and tactile nuance that experienced writers expect from a high-carat point. Available in fine, medium, or broad, it delivers consistent ink flow with a natural glide and a touch of responsiveness that preserves character in every line. The sterling silver construction imparts a confident, balanced weight, giving the nib a stable platform and lending handwriting a measured cadence.

A cartridge-converter filling system provides practical versatility for those who rotate inks or travel frequently. Pair the pen with a favorite bottled ink via the converter or keep it simple with cartridges. Either way, the writing ritual remains composed and precise.

Brand Heritage

David Oscarson has earned a devoted following among collectors for reviving guilloche engraving and hot vitreous enamel at a modern, small-production scale. The workshop’s approach is exacting: sterling silver is engine-turned, carefully enameled, and then hand-finished to a radiant polish. Collections often explore art, science, and cultural history; the Carl Linnaeus series stands comfortably within this tradition, bringing scholarly inspiration into a refined writing instrument built to endure.

Sweet younger YA graphic novel
Format: Paperback
Nayra and the Djinn is a graphic novel set during Ramadan that follows an American Muslim girl desperate to transfer out of the high school she hates. When shadow djinn Marjan agrees to help her by using their djinn powers, Nayra’s life starts improving. But Marjan isn’t being honest about their reasons for being in the human world, and as the end of Ramadan approaches, Marjan’s secrets may return to upend Nayra’s life too … This is a super cute coming-of-age tale that revolves around friendship and family! I think it slots perfectly into the much-needed crossover area between older middle-grade and lower YA books, and will appeal to younger teens or the young at heart. The art style was overall adorable, but my favorite aspect was the color work. The artist used a limited color palette to portray different moods and character perspectives. As a space nerd, I also appreciated the star accents throughout the artwork (I have a theory that the stars tended to crop up to hint at djinn influence on the events of the story, but that’s just speculation). While I’m not a frequent graphic novel reader, this was a lovely change of pace from my usual reads. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a wholesome middle grade/YA crossover with a sprinkle of the supernatural!
