This red-figure decoration is inspired by an original Attic psykter signed by Douris (British Museum No. 1868,0606.7) and was decorated in May 2021 by Vicky Xyda-Ralli.
The vessel, with its tall cylindrical foot, rounded body, and short neck, was used for cooling wine. When filled with wine, it could be placed within a larger vessel, such as a krater or lekane filled with snow. Some scholars suggest the psykter itself might have been filled with snow and set into a larger container holding the wine, allowing it to cool.
Today, this versatile vessel can be used as a unique wine container or wine cooler, adding a touch of ancient elegance to modern gatherings.
