About This Piece

An antique French gilt bronze picture frame, circa 1900. The oval photo holder rests in a twig frame with easel back and is encircled with clusters of grapes and vines. At the top of the frame is a perched bird and the bottom the frame has a twisted bow. Please note the curled grape tendrils that add so much to the overall design of this stunning frame.

Hallmarks & Provenance

French, C 1900, no markings found.  

Details & Dimensions

Measurements; 11” high X 8” wide, photo opening is 5 ½” X 4”

Condition

 Wear consistent with age and use. Overall good condition with finish variation and gilt loss. The cream-colored mat with gold edging shows some wear. The easel back and chain work well. There is a small bracket on the back of the frame which is used to open the back. Instead of opening the frame I have used tweezers to pull the mat out and check for its condition.
