  • We are excited to present our most recent Race Weathered project at 1:8 scale: the Mercedes-Benz W196 Monoposto, precisely replicated as raced by the great Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1955 British Grand Prix at Aintree Motor Racing Circuit on the 16th of July 1955. This exclusive edition consists of just five models, each of which will be meticulously hand-painted by the artisans in our Bristol workshop to exhibit every detail of race dirt and oil stains that adorned the car as it reached the chequered flag. Every model will also be accompanied by an archive quality Giclée print of the car mid-corner, selected by Amalgam from the Motorsport Images collection.

Please note the imagery above is of the 'clean' model. As soon as we have imagery of the first completed weathered model, we will update accordingly.

One of the most dominant cars to have ever raced at the pinnacle of motorsport, the Mercedes-Benz W196 drove its competitors to despair during the 1954 and 1955 Formula 1 seasons in which it was entered, capturing the only two World Championships in which it competed.

Mercedes had been absent in Grand Prix racing for twenty years, but a combination of new Formula 1 regulations and a thriving economic turnaround in Germany allowed the Silver Arrows to compete once again. Expectations were high; in the past the Mercedes-Benz racing cars were not only the fastest, but also the most technologically advanced; a showcase of the company's advanced technical capabilities. The W196 did not disappoint. Considering the relatively small displacement of 2.5 litres, the team of engineers, headed by Fritz Nallinger and Rudolf Uhlenhautand, chose a surprising and different format for the long straight eight engine, though this risk soon yielded astonishing results.

The W196 was the first Formula 1 car to use desmodromic valves to allow the significantly smaller engine to rev higher, as well as the first to use a Bosch-developed fuel injection system, which had already been successfully used on the 300SL racing cars. Adapted from the DB 601 high-performance V12 used on the Messerschmitt Bf 109E fighter, the novel fuel injection system allowed for 257 brake horsepower at the time of its debut, rising to 290 bhp at an impressive 8500 rpm after a year of on-track development. Also carried over from the 300SL was the space-frame chassis, which featured an entirely new approach to chassis building, combining light weight with exceptional rigidity. Sparing no expense, the engineers developed a variety of track specific versions of the W196 with three wheelbases and two interchangeable body styles: the ‘Type Monza’ low-drag streamliner body, designed for high-speed circuits, and the more open-wheel configuration, for the more technical, twisty circuits.

Still busy developing the cars, Mercedes missed the first three races of the 1954 season; the belated debut came at the French Grand Prix in Reims, where the streamlined body was immediately right at home. Racing manager Alfred Neubauer hired the – initially reluctant – superstar Juan Manuel Fangio to partner the German duo of Hans Herrmann and Karl Kling, and it was instantly obvious that the German marque’s approach was too much for the Italian and British specialist manufacturers to match. Fangio helped Mercedes to continue a debut-winning tradition by piloting the W196 to a debut victory, a few metres ahead of Kling, whilst Herrmann posted the fastest lap. The open-wheel variant of the W196 debuted two races later in the team’s home Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, after a tougher race at Silverstone. Fangio again was victorious, and would go on to dominate three races in a row, winning at the Swiss and Italian Grands Prix as well. In a relatively poor showing in the final race in Spain, the Argentinian claimed a podium as he finished the season as the World Champion. While Fangio started the season at Alfa Romeo, winning two races with the Italians, his points tally with the W196 alone would have been enough to win him the World Championship title.

For 1955, Fangio was joined by a new team-mate, the up-and-coming Stirling Moss, creating a virtually invincible pairing. The Argentine driver started the season on a high by winning his home Grand Prix in soaring temperatures that exhausted most of his opponents. The W196’s lowest moment followed, as it failed to score a single point at Monaco: all three of the entered cars were hampered by reliability problems. Despite the horrifying 1955 Le Mans disaster shortening the Formula 1 season, the W196 completely dominated the remaining four races, finishing first and second in Belgium (Fangio-Moss), the Netherlands (Fangio-Moss) and Italy (Fangio-Taruffi), whilst at the penultimate race in Great Britain, the Mercedes team took a remarkable 1-2-3-4, Moss claiming his first Grand Prix victory ahead of Fangio, Kling and Piero Taruffi. Needless to say, Fangio was crowned champion again with Moss a distant second.

Shaken by the Le Mans accident, Mercedes-Benz left Grand Prix racing at the end of the season for the third time in their history, retiring their almost invincible car after racing for just one year and two months. Overall, the versatile W196's track record was impressive indeed: nine victories, eight pole positions and nine fastest laps in the twelve Grand Prix races in which it was entered, and, of course, Fangio's world titles in 1954 and 1955. It is widely agreed that the only reason the W196 did not win more titles is that the Manufacturers’ Championship was not introduced until 1958.

This fine 1:8 scale model is of the Mercedes-Benz W196 Monoposto as raced to second position by the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio during the British Grand Prix at Aintree on the 16th of July 1955. Sir Stirling Moss led home the W196’s finest hour, a dominating 1-2-3-4 finish, ahead of his Argentine companion. Many, including Moss himself, believed that Fangio allowed his British protégé to claim his debut win in front of his home crowd. This was, however, consistently denied by the newly crowned triple World Champion, who claimed that Moss "was simply faster that day." Due to the curtailing of the Formula 1 season in the wake of the Le Mans disaster, Fangio's points advantage over Moss after the race was sufficient to secure his third World Drivers' Championship.

This model will be handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and assistance of Mercedes-Benz regarding original finishes, materials, archive imagery and drawings. The use of supremely accurate digital scanning of the original car has allowed us to perfectly recreate every detail at scale. Furthermore, every model will undergo detailed scrutiny by both Mercedes-Benz’s engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.

A great value for a state of the art monitor.
I use two of these at my home work station. I am not a gamer, I use these mainly for working on multiple spread sheets and financial programs. The high pixel count of these 8k video displays makes it easy to read the screens. I have Windows 11 on my computer, so installation of the 3 monitors was easy. I have my computer monitor set at 150% and these two monitors set at 125% magnification. All three are at eye level. They came with display port cables which my computer and hubs do not have, so I in a 8K HDMI cable for each. I do play a few videos, and those look great. The curved screen helps in keeping all the monitor sort of equidistant from my eyes which helps everything on the 3 screens stay in focus for my 80 year old eyes. I have reflections on my computer screen, but both of these Koorui monitors are reflection free. I first went to Costco to pick up a monitor and this allowed me to zero in that I wanted the 8k and curved screen in a 24 or 27 inch monitor. They did not have that combination. I tried just one of the Koorui monitors along with my older monitor. The Koorui was so far superior that I quickly purchased the second one and tossed out my outdated one. I use these for hours each day, and at this low price I feel I can easily justify this investment. I feel secure these monitors will be with me for a long time.

    This sucks.
Well i picked this up on sale for black friday and finally got around to installing my new video card, psu, extra ssd, and finally hooking up this new monitor. The new video card doesn't have a spot for the cable from my old 1080p monitor, so this is the only monitor i can use. It's christmas eve btw. Anyways the monitor fires up fine and looks great for about 6 hours of use. Then as i'm getting ready to boot up elden ring a big vertical magenta line of pixels appears on the right half of the screen, as well as a grey horizontal line of pixels. I didn't do anything before this happened, the monitor was sitting completely still on my desk. One second it worked the next i've got this line. I tested another cable, and while unplugging the displayport cable from the monitor the pink line stayed there as it was registering "no input." So it's definitely the monitor that's broken and not something wrong with my video card or software. I tried contacting technical support early in the morning and still haven't received anything at 5 pm. I realize it's christmas eve but I'm now stuck without a functioning monitor for probably my entire time off for christmas, and will have to pay return shipping, which soaks up all the money i saved getting it on sale. Over all i'm very unhappy with this purchase. edit: Koorui, the manufacturer, never got back to me about the broken monitor they sent me, so i contacted amazon and told them my situation. they told me they couldn't send a replacement because it wasn't available, even though you can order the exact monitor off amazon through prime right now. this order was a critical failure in service with both koorui and amazon. they can't seem to lift a finger for someone who paid them money for a product they sell. they want me to ship the monitor back, receive my money back, then purchase the same monitor for a higher price from them. I'm changing my review to 1 star and i would give 0 stars if i could. unbelievable. edit: ok i shipped the monitor back. they sent me a replacement monitor and this monitor also does not work. it doesn't turn on. i plugged it into both a surge protector and a power strip, then switched the cable and it doesn't turn on. i would be extremely wary of this company and their products. edit 2: by far my worst purchasing experience on amazon. with the second broken monitor they shipped me the support guy actually asked if i would take it to a tv repair shop. i told him we don't have that in the united states and returned the item for a full refund. they got to keep my $150 for about 3 months though. these people should not be allowed to sell on amazon.

Koorui 34E6UC (34" 3440×1440, 180 Hz, 1000R curved VA panel) — But Missing Info Buyers Should Know
    Size: 34"/WQHD/1000R/HDR400
Review: I purchased two of the Koorui 34‑inch curved ultrawide monitors for a dual‑monitor setup, and so far I’m very pleased with them. The picture quality is sharp, the brightness is solid, and the “Normal” color preset looks natural without any adjustments. For the price, these 34‑inch panels deliver very good performance. That said, there are a few important details the product listing and reviews don’t mention — and knowing them ahead of time would have saved me some stress during installation. 1. YES, the 34‑inch model DOES include stand‑offs (spacers) This is not mentioned anywhere in the listing, and even Amazon’s Rufus incorrectly says they are *not* included. They actually come in the small accessory packet with the manual. If you’re mounting these monitors, you will need those stand‑offs because of the recessed VESA pattern. They are already in the box — just not advertised. I rushed to order a separate spacer kit because the listing didn’t mention it, so I’m putting this here to help the next person avoid that. 2. One of my monitors flashed briefly until I disabled FreeSync On one of the two monitors, I noticed a quick bright “flash” when moving the mouse. Turning off Adaptive Sync / FreeSync in the monitor’s menu fixed it instantly. The other monitor didn’t have this issue, so it seems to vary by panel. Not a defect — just something to be aware of if you see flicker or brightness pops. 3. Color and brightness match well once set manually After setting both monitors to the same brightness, contrast, and color mode, they match very well side‑by‑side. The “Normal” color preset looks the most accurate on these VA panels. 4. Build quality and packaging are solid Both monitors arrived well‑protected, and the included cables work fine. The stand is basic, but I’m using monitor arms, so that wasn’t a factor for me. 5. Too early to comment on long‑term support or durability I’ve only had these monitors set up for a few hours, so I can’t speak yet to long‑term reliability or how responsive Koorui’s support is. I’ll update this review if anything changes over time. Bottom line: These 34‑inch Koorui ultrawides are excellent for the price, especially for gaming or a dual‑monitor setup. Just be aware that: - Stand‑offs ARE included (despite the listing not saying so) - FreeSync may need to be turned off on some units - Picture quality is great once you match settings manually - Long‑term support is still unknown If the listing had mentioned the included spacers, it would have saved me a last‑minute order — so I hope this review helps the next person.

Awesome monitor! (my 3 year review)
So I've owned this monitor for about 3 years now and here's what I have to say about this monitor. The picture quality is actually really good. I got the 1080p version and I mostly use it with my Xbox series x and occasionally will use it for some lighter gaming on my gaming PC both work effortlessly well. The screen size is okay I think next time if it's in the budget I'll buy there 34 inch curved monitor. But for right now I'm sticking with this monitor until it dies and so far it's running strong 3 years later. Right now this monitor cost $80 which is an absolute steal at that price. I paid $130 for it and would say it's absolutely worth getting. There's no flickering. The setup process went smoothly. It's compatible with both my console and gaming PC! I absolutely love this monitor! I don't own the 27 inch version but I'd recommend going with either that size or bigger if you can afford it.
